Hi,

I'm getting this failure on a Windows 7 PC when trying to upgrade to Windows 10:
0xC1900101 - 0x40017
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation

CBS.zip is too big so I have uploaded it here:

Anything you can suggest to help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi!

Try this and then reboot.

Failed to upgrade from Win7 Pro to Win10 Pro: 0x8007001F - 0x20006

If the upgrade does not work after the fix, please do the following:

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already checked).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

Thank you!

Just so you know, this is a different computer to the previous post.
I'll try this tomorrow and come back to you.
Thank you!

No, because it appeared to relate to the previous PC issue I was having with a different type of failure, so I thought I would skip past it. Are you sure that solution is relevant to this issue? It seem to relate to the MIGRATION sub folder, which was certainly relevant to the last issue, but not so much with this one I suspect.

Ok done:
Code:
Fix result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (x64) Version: 30-05-2020
Ran by Ahegge (30-05-2020 19:12:57) Run:1
Running from C:\Users\AHegge.STREAM\Downloads\FRST
Loaded Profiles: Ahegge
Boot Mode: Normal
==============================================

fixlist content:
*****************
C:\windows\system32\migration
*****************

C:\windows\system32\migration => moved successfully

==== End of Fixlog 19:12:57 ====

I will proceed with another upgrade attempt now...

No good. Same error as last time:
0xC1900101 - 0x40017
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation

Trend Micro has been removed using SA_uninstall.exe, then rebooted the PC, then ran FRST again. See attached.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I think it has frozen again during the final restart. It did this earlier on one other upgrade attempt.
The problem might be some sort of driver issue. Motherboard is already running the latest BIOS.
I'm not where the PC is, so I'll get someone to reset it in the morning and then I'll report back.

Power cycled the frozen PC this morning, then it rolled back to Windows 7 and spat the same "SECOND_BOOT phase" error as before.
