This update repeatedly fails. OS is Win 10 x64. Intel i7 cpu. Samsung ssd. 16gb memory. Attached is SCFFix.txt which reports no errors. Ran sfc /scannow which reported unfixable corrupt file errors. Attached is CBS.rar. Please help.

Hi Brian. The answer is complicated. It's the same machine, ie, same cpu, hard drive, etc. After I last communicated with you, I had out of town guests until after Xmas. When I next tried to use the system, it would only boot into safe mode. I then tried loading several prior VMware Win 10 images; going back to August. Each failed to update with the KB3106246 update, the last one before 1511. This comprises the image created before the one you and I worked on. A clean install is really not viable because of the great number of programs installed. The computer is dual boot with Win 7 Pro. The OS's are on different drives. For what it's worth, attached is SRTTrail.txt created with a Win 10 1511 boot disk created from Techbench download. I desperately need to get this problem resolved. Thanks.

Let's start with the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

It doesn't appear that you dragged and dropped the SFCFix.zip over the top of SFCFix.exe.

Correct. I meant SFCFix.zip. OK, please delete any file on your desktop beginning with SFCFix or SFCScript and let me know when done.

OK, we've seen this before. We may have to manually do the fixes which isn't as fun as using a tool. Before we do, so I can present all the options please do the following.

Retrieve System Information
1. Download Speccy to your desktop. The setup file will be named spsetup126.exe or something similar.
2. Double-click on this file and install it. Note: Please ensure that you uncheck any foistware that may be presented during the install (i.e. Chrome Browser install).
3. When the program opens it will retrieve some information regarding your system.
4. Once it's done, select the File menu and choose Publish snapshot. Answer Yes to the confirmation message.
5. On the next screen that comes up, choose the Copy to Clipboard button and paste this link in your next reply.

Thanks. Are you willing to do a Physical to Virtual conversion of your C:\ drive so I can analyze and resolve the issue? Your C:\ drive is about 100GB and I see you have at least one drive with enough space to hold this. You would just download and run the following tool and convert only the C:\ drive.

Once this is done, let me know and I'll provide you FTP credentials to upload to me. Please let me know if this is an option.

Thanks.
