Dear, Good Guys!

I've been failing to upgrade my Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 to Windows 10 using either Media Creation Tool or USB stick. I get the same error every time. (I didn't try running from ISO burned to DVD because it's 5,6 GB and needs a DL DVD – I have one DL DVD disc but my burner doesn't read it; not sure if it's DVD's or burner's issue).

Windows 7 is up to date. My only antivirus is Microsoft Security Essentials, although I also have COMODO Firewall.

Can someone help me, please? For the sake of privacy, I uploaded the required logs (CBS.zip and ComponentsScanner.txt) to a Dropbox folder. And I also uploaded there the compressed \$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log.

Hello,

Install Update with DISM
  1. Download the update MSU here: http://download.windowsupdate.com/c..._92202202c3dee2f713f67adf6622851b998c6780.msu
  2. Copy the MSU file to a convenient location (such as C:\temp).
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  5. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    cd C:\temp

replace C:\temp with your path if different

    expand windows6.1-kb4555449-x64_92202202c3dee2f713f67adf6622851b998c6780.msu -f:* C:\temp

    DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\temp\windows6.1-kb4555449-x64.cab

  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Make sure to allow the computer to restart if prompted.
  7. If you receive any other message:
Post a screenshot of the Commandprompt window.
Zip and attach the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Thank you for reply, PeterJ :)

The operation completed successfully, without any additional prompts. It didn't ask to restart.
(I'm not sure if I had to attach screenshot+log in this case, but I did it. They're on Dropbox.)

Great.
Restart the machine.
Check Windows Update but do not install any updates yet.
Provide a screenshot of the available important updates first.

It's been searching udates for hours. I left it for night and it's still searching (screenshot-1 on Dropbox).

Weird thing is that when I open Windows Update I see a red shield and "Last update search: never" + "Last update install: never" (screenshot-2). However, I have many updates installed (screenshot-3), I'm sure Windows was up-to-date. But the history of updates is almost empty - there's only SURT from 3 days ago (screenshot-4). Could it be wiped while restoring the system? Or maybe I cleaned the history with CCleaner some time ago (I don't know if it can)?

I have autoupdate turned on for all components (screenshot-5).

P.S. I changed WIndows Update Settings now (in case it finds sth) from "Check and install automatically" to "Check but let me choose", because you said not to install anything now.

Try to upgrade again and report the result.

Upgrade rolled back to Windows 7. Still the same error 0xC1900101-0x40017 "The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation".

I uploaded zipped CBS folder and C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log and C:\Windows\System32\Config\COMPONENTS file to /Dropbox/post#14. Just in case.

Attach the file C:\Windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log to your next reply.

Download & Run the tool SetupDiag
  1. Open the website SetupDiag Download Page
  2. Click the Download SetupDiag button.
  3. Create a new folder on your Desktop and nove the file SetupDiag.exe to that folder.
  4. Right-click the "SetupDiag.exe" and click Run as administrator.
  5. When completed, three files are created, "Log.zip," "SetupDiag.exe.config," and "SetupDiagResults.log" in the folder SetupDiag.exe was executed.
  6. Attach only the file "SetupDiagResults.log" to your next reply.

The SetupDiag log doesn't show much information.

FRST Scan:
  1. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
64-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  2. Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  3. Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  4. Press the Scan button.
  5. Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  6. Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.
