The biometric iris recognition scans used at many security checkpoints may be less reliable than previously believed, researchers at the University of Notre Dame have found.
In a paper that will be presented at next week's IEEE Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference, a pair of scientists argue that patterns in irises change significantly as people age.
The study used commercial iris-matching software to compare 20,000 images of 644 irises, using iris pictures that were taken anywhere from one month to three years apart.

I noticed one eye of mine is a bit more blue/hazel and the other is a bit more brown/hazel. Both used to be brown.

Yeah, that's a Homer Simpson moment for sure.

My Lenovo finger print lock failed for the same reason. Who would have thought that using muratic acid to clean my garage floor to prep it for the epoxy coat would have destroyed my finger prints? After learning this, corporately, we disabled the feature on all systems to prevent further issues. Nothing beats a really good password.

FWIW, there may be a way around that :)
Immersed the finger in warm/hot soapy water for a couple of minutes, then quickly wipe dry. This should over-hydrate the skin, which brings out the ridge pattern.
