Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Please start with the following so I can take a look.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Thank you. This should get you fixed up.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - SFC Scan

I don't appear to be able to attach the cbs log which had no integrity violations, it just won't upload and i've been at this for hours now. The icon on the desktop appears to be blank so i don't know how that happened. I can'' seem to get anything to work on this PC so maybe a reinstall is the only answer. :*(

No integrity violations is all I really needed to hear. So let's go ahead and try the following now.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

It's still initializing installation after six hours. I left it on and went to bed, that and Microsoft Security Essentials haven't moved at all. Surely it's doesn't take that amount of time to do either - should i stop them?

Over thirteen hours later i decided to quit...still can't get into AOL/Skype/IE 10 etc...nothing has changed. Only able to work on anything in safe mode still.

Did you try running the following instructions while in Safe mode?

OK, boot normally and then please run the following.

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please copy and paste log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.

Step#1 - Uninstalls

Please uninstall the following programs one at a time. Instructions for doing so are here.
If any of the programs give you an error during the uninstall, notate it and move on to the next one. Just let me know which ones had issues. If you are asked to reboot, answer No until all the programs have been uninstalled and then you can reboot. All of these programs are not recommended. If you absolutely must have one of them I suggest that you wait until we resolve your issue before re-installing.

Advanced SystemCare 8
Driver Booster 3.0
iFreeUp 1.0
IObit Malware Fighter 3
IObit Uninstaller
Smart Defrag 4
Surfing Protection

The vendor of the above products is untrustworthy and deemed a rogue within the Anti-Malware community as a whole. Let me know when these are uninstalled and we'll continue. Thanks.

I've uninstalled all of it but i've only just paid for it...i've also been using it for years without any problems so i don't understand why it's suddenly rogue?

Once we get your computer working again, feel free to re-install. I've personally seen some of these programs cause all sorts of issues and I didn't want them to interfere with our fixes.

Please do the following now.

Step#1 - ChkDsk Scan
1. Click your Start Orb in the lower left of your computer and type cmd in the search box.
2. Once the cmd program is found, right-click on it with your mouse and select Run as administrator as shown below.
ElevateCommandPrompt.JPG

3. Answer Yes when asked to allow.
4. You should now have a black window open that you can type in to.
5. Please type chkdsk and then press enter.
6. Chkdsk will start to run. Please allow it to finish. You will know it is running when you see text as follows.
Chkdsk.JPG

7. Download ListChkdskResult.exe by SleepyDude and save it on your desktop. If it's already downloaded to your desktop, just skip this step.
8. Right-click this file and select Run as administrator (Allow if prompted)and a text file will open (and also be saved on the desktop as ListChkdskResult.txt).
Please copy the contents of this file and paste into your next post.

I'm not so sure i will reinstall now having read the report from MB..i'm appalled. I pay for my programmes but they them seem to be no better than the free stuff. At the end of this if you would be so kind as to recommend anything that won't screw up my computer i'd be eternally grateful. :*)
