Hi, i´m having issues trying to install SP2 on a windows server 2008 32bits virtual machine, i ran the system update readiness tool and got the CheckSUR file with a lot errors such as failed to get CurrentState and failed to get Visibility, i was reading a lot about updates corruption and repairing it through the registry but i figured it would be safer and faster to just ask for help.

I ran the tool again and got the same errors so im guessing its not repairing them.

My current system:
OS Windows Server 2008 x86
hardware Dell PowerEdge R720
6gb of ram
Xeon E5-2620 2.0 ghz

I was reading this other thread ( https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/6171-windows-update-error-code-80070490-help.html ) and it seemed like a similar issue regarding corrupt registry data, i hope tom982 is still around to help me.

Thanks

So i was reading the windows update forum instructions and followed all the steps, sfc scan show tells me that there are corrupted files but it cannot repaired them, i ran the SFCfix and followed all the steps, SUMMARY: Some corruptions could not be fixed automatically. Seek advice from helper or sysnative.com. CBS & SFC total detected corruption count: 3
CBS & SFC total unimportant corruption count: 0
CBS & SFC total fixed corruption count: 0
SURT total detected corruption count: 41
SURT total unimportant corruption count: 0
SURT total fixed corruption count: 0
AutoAnalysis:: directive completed successfully.

Then ran the SURT again and got the same logs with 40 errors, here is the whole CBS folder and the SFC .txt

Thanks

No problem, it might be a bit dificult to run tests since the server doesn't have an internet connection but i have a client within the LAN with an active teamviewer sesion to access the host and the VM.

Thanks for the fast reply :)

Apologies for the delay!

Please do the following:

Step#1 - Export registry as hive

  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).
  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Install Update with DISM

  1. Download this update and save to your desktop. The file name will be Windows6.0-KB979688-x86.cab.zip.
  2. Right-click on this file and select Extract All... Click the Extract button. You can close the folder window that opens
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Go ahead and allow if you receive the UAC prompt.
  5. Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt window and press enter.

    dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.0-KB979688-x86.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up. If you do get errors, please zip/attach your CBS.log
