When tiring to upgrade IE 9 to IE 11 on Windows 7 I get the following error in the CBS log.
"CBS Failed to find file: amd64_microsoft-windows-scripting-vbscript_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.22024_none_a6feb3715dac73fc\vbscript.dll [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]"

I have run the windows readiness tool without any noticeable error's. Have uninstalled IE 11 failed install and did the activate / deactivate the browser in the programs & functions settings. And tried the installed of IE 11 again to only get the same sequence of errors.

Any help you can give will be of great assistance.. Much Thanks :thumbsup2: in advance.

This type of IE issue can be extremely difficult to resolve but we can give it a try. We'll have to do several things. Let's start with the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

OK I'd like to try and create a fix but need a copy of your COMPONENTS hive first. Please do the following.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

OK, please do the following.

1. Download Windows6.1-KB2706045-x64.cab.zip and save this to your desktop.
2. Right-click on the downloaded file and select Extract All...
3. Ensure "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click the Extract button
4. You can close the window that opens.
5. Click the Start button and type cmd in the search box.
6. Right-click on the cmd that comes up in programs and select Run as administrator. Click Yes to allow if the User Account Control dialog comes up.
7. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window that is open. Note: You need to right-click the mouse in the command-prompt window and select paste in order to paste. You can't use the keyboard shortcuts.

dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB2706045-x64.cab\Windows6.1-KB2706045-x64.cab

8. With any luck you will see something like the following which says it was successfull. Please let me know how it goes.

Good. Go back to Windows Updates and check for updates. Install any IE10 related updates. Don't install IE11 yet. Keep installing them until there are no more IE10 ones.
