  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:

The provided solution fixed the image. Thank you!

sfc /scannow -> Good!
Dism /RestoreHealth -> store is succesfully restored
chkdsk -> Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems. No further action is required.

But now I tried to install update KB5037763 but it fails again like before the image was fixed. I still get the same error: Some update files are missing or have problems. We will try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x80073712).

Do you any idea how to fix this error?

Please provide the latest CBS logs.

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

Hi,

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Export CBS (Component Based Servicing) hive
  • Click on the Start button and type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).

Yeah, It's installing Windows updates now again.

KB890830: Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for x64 Systems - v5.125
The installation was completed today

So it seems like the image is good again.

It's downloading the 2024-06 cumulative updates now so i'd wait until they're installed then we can decide whether the image is good or not.

2024-06 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB5039214)
The installation failed today

Please attach the latest CBS logs. But it failed with error 0x80073712 again?

yes, Some update files are missing or have problems. We will try to download the update again later.
Error code: (0x80073712)

Kindly find the CBS logs here CBS.zip

Please provide a copy of the COMPONENTS hive and the Components Based Servicing key from a (similar) server without any issues which I can use as source to rebuild the missing / corrupted keys.

    622dbef75cd3a-Export-CBS-hive.png

  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Are these files from a working server? This because the deployments key is also empty.

It's a Citrix test server, it runs maintenance images in order to install new apps or Windows updates.

Okay, then I'll need a copy of the COMPONENTS hive from a server which is fully up-to-date.

This test server runs the most up-to-date image actually. It runs new images which install apps or install Windows updates.
