Hello all!

Helping l a friend fix their machine, heard good things about this forum.

We are avoiding a clean install. Screenshots of SFC, DISM, and In-place upgrades all fail with similar error messages. CBS logs also uploaded. Please let me know what else I can do. Would like to bring the machine up to date.

Also, I wouldn't mind knowing how to do this myself, as I feel as though I've encountered this a lot!

Note: Found this post that seemed to have the exact same issue.

  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Will be trying this fix later today. Thank you so much for the quick reply. I will edit this post with my findings.

You're welcome. Please post always a new reply instead of editing your current post, this because I will not receive a (new) notification of an edit. And that said you can only edit your post within a few minutes.

Success!

System is currently updating. The software/drivers that were failing install (original issue, may not have mentioned) is now seemingly going through. If anything changes, I will let you all know.

I would love to know a little more about this for future issues, if anyone is willing to divulge their secrets... How to identify/write some of these. I noticed the fix was relating to reclaiming permissions.

Great. But this is not an issue with permissions but rather an issue with corrupted system files, in this case the Servicing Stack!

Error 0x800703e6 = Invalid access to memory location.
