Error installing KB4560960 in Windows 10 - error 0x800f081f

Hi!

As you are using an outdated build of Windows 10, I'd recommend first upgrading to the latest one and seeing if the issue persists.

  1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
  2. Accept the License Agreement
  3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
  4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

We want to get the ISO so that you don't have to keep downloading which can take hours.

I have tried to run the "Download and install Windows 10 1909" from the link within Windows Update on the problem PC, but this process fails too.

Do you think the upgrade attempt would behave differently if I were to download the full 1909 package using the Media Creation Tool?

Tell me more about when it fails.

Also, please provide the following:

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already checked).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

The 1909 Feature Update failed twice on 15th June, with this error:
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F081F: Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909.

When I look at Windows Update now it is offering the 2004 Feature Update instead, but I don't really want to try that until I know Windows Update is fixed, as I still can't install the small 1903 update. Still getting this error:
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F081F: 2020-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 for x64-based Systems (KB4560960).

See logs attached. Thanks for your help!

The issue is that the hyper V component is missing from the update causing it to fail. In order to fix this, you'd need to unpack the update, add the missing file and then retry installing it, but with DISM and repeat the process for every file that may be missing.

That's why I thought that the reinstall might be a better option.

The person who uses this PC wants me to give up on it for now as they feel I'm spending too much time on it.

They want me to wait and then do a fresh install of Windows 10 later in the year, just before build 1903 goes EOL in December 2020.

Thanks heaps for trying to sort this out for us. Much appreciated.
