For the past few weeks I've been trying to solve my issues with Windows Update.
This included running the Update troubleshooter (which sometimes found something, sometimes didn't), running DISM and SFC. This managed to fix some things but I think this time I hit the wall.
Windows Update states "Error Encountered"
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800703f1)

2021-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64-based Systems (KB5008212)
I ran DISM again and SFC and it prompted me with,
Error: 1009
The configuration registry database is corrupt.
I went and ran SFCFix, which in the past worked fine and although it has been running for more than 8 hours, nothing happened there. It just ran DISM and...that's it. Before that it mentioned

Due to the nature of your corruptions, scan times have been extended by
approximately 15-20 minutes. Please be patient and allow the operation to
complete.
Unfortunately, I am trying my best to avoid reinstalling Windows since I am working on several big projects which would be delayed.
How could this be fixed in such a way that I will be able to keep my files and programs installed?
