For the past few weeks I've been trying to solve my issues with Windows Update.

This included running the Update troubleshooter (which sometimes found something, sometimes didn't), running DISM and SFC. This managed to fix some things but I think this time I hit the wall.

Windows Update states "Error Encountered"
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800703f1)

which is triggered when installing
2021-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64-based Systems (KB5008212)

I ran DISM again and SFC and it prompted me with,
Error: 1009
The configuration registry database is corrupt.

I went and ran SFCFix, which in the past worked fine and although it has been running for more than 8 hours, nothing happened there. It just ran DISM and...that's it. Before that it mentioned
Attempting repair . . .
Stage 1
Stage 2
Stage 3

Due to the nature of your corruptions, scan times have been extended by
approximately 15-20 minutes. Please be patient and allow the operation to
complete.

Unfortunately, I am trying my best to avoid reinstalling Windows since I am working on several big projects which would be delayed.

How could this be fixed in such a way that I will be able to keep my files and programs installed?

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

Could you please replace the COMPONENTS hive found under C:\Windows\system32\config with the version attached below. Afterwards, please run the DISM command as you did in the posting instructions.

Hey, it seems like that worked! I will try to update now and see if it was fixed.

Thank you for your assistance, x BlueRobot . Here is the current situation:

tldr: Updating Windows didn't work.

I ran DISM as instructed and I tried running the Windows update. As before, it prompted restart but as the computer restarted, it told me that it couldn't complete the update and it will revert. I tried running the Windows Update Troubleshooter, it told me it fixed something so I tried again. That didn't work.

There are two update packages that require installation so once one of them prompted for restart, I restarted.

Download error - 0xe0000100

Couldn't complete the update, it reverted.

Once I restarted for the second update,
2021-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64-based Systems (KB5008212)

Couldn't complete the update, it reverted again.

I got "Error encountered" as main message in the Windows Update screen.
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0xe0000100)

I ran sfc /scannow with the following result:

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I ran DISM again with the following result:

As requested, this is the SFCFix.txt file above.

I tried running SFC /SCANNOW but

There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again.

Restarted, ran SFC /SCANNOW

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I attached the two required files to this post.
Sorry for the delay, I was unable to restart and SFC required it.

Thank you. Sadly, it didn't fix the issue.
I attached the new CBS zipped.

One thing that caught my attention was the fact that when I ran SFCFix.txt it gave me a message, which sadly I didn't capture, which stated something related to DriveStore along the lines of something missing. I couldn't reproduce it.

Could you open the SFCFix.txt file from your desktop, does it contain any processing output or just the fix?

I got this message, I am going to reboot now.

That's seems to be the case. I took a video of the dialog since this moves really fast to the SFCFix Has Crashed screen.

Does it immediately fail after that?

I would suggest deleting SFCFix.exe and then deleting any SFCFix zips you may have, aftewards, download SFCFix again along with the latest script.
