I have the windows app but using it brought a different error code upon rebooting after screen froze copying files. I have Windows 7 and trying to upgrade to Windows 10. I solved two issues with SFC Fix and decided to give it another go using 64 bit media tool from Microsoft. Problem arose when download rebooted with next step to copy files, screen froze. I rebooted and received error C1900101-20017 and some issue with Boot.

Both sfc scannow and sfc fix report all is well with no issues.

tried again and as with windows 10 upgrade from windows update same frozen screen with copying files at 84 % and completed at 25 %
I've seen others with same exact issue. Screen frozen and forced reboot brings the error code C1900101-2004 Installation failed in Safe OS Phase with error during Install-Recovery-Environment. This is Windows 7 trying to upgrade to Windows 10.

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named LiquidTension. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

I solved that issue and was able to install Windows 10. Sorry, forgot about this post and should have updated.

Hi. How did you solve the error? I've tried everything I can find online so far and nothing has worked for me so far. Thanks x

I did a clean boot and then used the ISO image from Media Tool, burned that to DVD, booted from DVD and installed Windows 10.

Thanks. I did the ISO thing and still didn't work for me. Ive spent days trying to install now. Im gonna give up for a while. Thanks so much for replying x

Yes I did. Still got BSOD and same error code as before.

Just to make sure you are not thinking clean install when I say clean boot:

Run msconfig and choose Selective Start-Up.

Remove the check from Load Startup items

Click on the Services tab.

Check "Hide All Microsoft Services" and then click on Disable All--If you have an anti virus program like Eset, the box for that will remain checked and that's OK.

Click on Apply and than OK.

Did you do all that before booting from DVD ISO?

Hi. Yes I've done all of that. Still same code. I do t know what else to do now. I e tried everything people have suggested online and still the same result. I've used scannow and there are no errors there. Thanks x

Can you explain exactly what is happening for you to say BDOD? How long is the screen black? At what point did you remove the DVD?

I've installed via update and ISO. As soon as it's finished installing and the computer restarts I just get a windows icon on a black screen. Nothing else. Everything stops working. I have to switch off manually with the power button then it goes back to 8.1 with the error msg. I must have tried over 20 times now with every suggestion I've found online and on YouTube. I've even resized the system partition as someone suggested. I even wiped the damn thing, reinstalled 8, upgraded to 8.1 and then 10. If I hadn't just come out of hospital I would never have time to do all this but I don't really want to let it beat me. Lol. Thanks x

If I recall correctly, there is a black screen for short time and then it begins the install process. How long did you wait after seeing the black screen? Did you wait 10 minutes? I don't recall how long it was, but I think it was 10 minutes or less.

I've waited for quite a while. All night once. I've made another ISO today and done a clean boot. I've tried uefi enabled and disabled. Still no joy. I'm lost!!!

What device are you using, PC, Laptop, etc.? What version of Windows are you trying to upgrade from?

I did a clean install using DVD with ISO image. I did not mess with BIOS except to change boot from my DVD drive. Are you using USB Flash or DVD to do this?

FWIW, I wiped my SSDs clean before inserting DVD with ISO. I disconnected the other SSDs and let Windows installation choose my one SSD unallocated space to partition.

I've found the answer!!!! It's the Broadcom wifi. The laptop is a Samsung RV511. There is no update as yet from Samsung or Microsoft so you either have to wait for new drivers, remove the card and get a Atheros AR5B22 which apparently works a treat or go without Windows 10. I've just had the back off, removed the card and hey presto! It's loading! I'm on 19% at the moment so fingers crossed 😀 The same card works in other brands of laptop but not in Samsungs. Thanks so much for your help and I'll let you know what happens. 23% now and I'm getting excited.

Hello! Yes it's all done and I've clean installed. Running off the Ethernet till Samsung bother to update like everyone else has(they've had enough time surely?)or I'll just get another wifi card. All seems ok. Speed is fine and no issues yet. Thanks for your help. Xxx
