Hello,

My Windows 10 will no longer update. I noticed this when I changed from a Nvidia 1050ti to a Vega 64 as part of my components upgrades this year.

I get this error code when running:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.18362.1

Image Version: 10.0.18363.476

[== 4.5% ]
Error: 1009

The configuration registry database is corrupt.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

I can't really afford to wipe and restart due to the amount of content and GB's of downloads in terms of content. Could someone advise a fix please? I can provide logs if needs be.

SFCScan comes back with:
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

With SFCFix I get:
Attempting repair . . .
Stage 1
Stage 2
Stage 3

Due to the nature of your corruptions, scan times have been extended by
approximately 15-20 minutes. Please be patient and allow the operation to
complete.

Hi!

Step 1 - Replace Drivers Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download DRIVERS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the DRIVERS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select rename. Rename it to DRIVERS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Drivers folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

Reboot and everything should work.

Hi there,

I've completed this but I am now faced with "0xca00a000", then 0x800703f1.

I'm still faced with:
Code:
Image Version: 10.0.18363.476

[==                         4.5%                           ]

The configuration registry database is corrupt.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

Attached.

I re-ran all the steps again to ensure that they were completely up-to date in terms of logs.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

Hello,

I have completed this and both:
  1. SFC /scannow and
  2. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
now show no errors, and both complete fully - no issues identified and getting to 100%.

I no longer get errors with my Windows 10 updating, except from when it says "Pending restart".

It "prepares to configure windows". Once it restarts, I get:

Code:
"We couldn't complete the feature.

Undoing changes...

Do not turn off your PC."

It then restarts before I get:
Code:
"We couldn't complete the update.

Undoing changes...

Do not turn off your PC."

It then reverts back, before starting up normally. It will then go through the process of "Installing" the update in the update centre before requiring a restart and the above procedure repeating.

My Antivirus will now update without errors but the Net 3.5 / 4.5 and the windows 10 1909 cumulative update won't install.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Afterwards, retry updates and provide fresh logs if they fail.

Thank you so much :)

It all worked and gone through - in before a lot of Windows updates came through which have now installed successfully - and all is good.

I appreciate your help - without you I would had most likely had to completely re-install windows.
