Hello everyone,
I guess I'm one of many having the same issues with Windows Update... Been trying to install KB4471318, but get the error message every time I try. I'm running Win7 Professional SP1. I've had some trouble with Windows Update earlier this year when I kept getting the message that it wasn't possible to search for new updates because Update wasn't running (when in fact it was). That one was solved by stopping Update, renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder and starting Update again, and ever since then everything was running smoothly.

I followed your instructions, but so far with no luck, so here's what I got so far:
SFCFix version 3.0.1.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2018-12-28 17:37:30.211
Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - amd64

CBS.zip can be found here.
Other info that might be useful:
~ I'm running Avira Free Antivirus, which is running smoothly and updates every day.
~ I've had this computer for about a year and a half, it was set up by a friend of mine (who has a lot more computer knowledge than I do, but even she couldn't help me with the update problem...)

So, I hope you'll be able to help me with this. Thanks in advance :)

Hello and welcome,

Follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log.

  1. Download SURT for your system. (Windows 7 SP1 x64)
  2. Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go through the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes).
  3. On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.
  4. Attach this log in your next reply.

Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.

Well done.
Start the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
On completion, attach the logfile C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log in your next reply.

Done, another log-File attached. This does look better for my layman's eye... does it?

Good, the file CheckSur.log is clean now.

Check Windows Update again and report the result.
If it fails, run sfc /scannow again and attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Update failed again, unfortunately... I was really expecting it to work now. :(

Zipped CBS.log was too large to attach, so it can be found here.

I was really expecting it to work now. :(
Please be patient. One step at a time.

Remove Update Manually
1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt.
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
wusa /uninstall /KB:4343900

4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

I did as you said and got a message saying "Update KB4343900 is not installed on this computer" (or something along the lines of that, I got the message in German and don't know if that would be the exact translation).

Just wondering, shouldn't it have been the KB4471318 I needed to uninstall as that's the one that keeps failing?

Well done and yes, KB4343900 is correct is my previous post.

Please do following:

FRST Registry Search
1. Click your Start button and choose Control Panel.
2. In the upper right corner ensure the View by: is set to Category.
3. Select the Programs group.
4. Click the Turn Windows features on or off link. This will bring up the Server Manager dialog.
Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep this dialog open while you perform the remaining steps. You can minimize it if you wish but keep it open.
5. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
64-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

6. Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
7. Copy and paste KB4343900 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
8. When the scan is complete, a message will display that 'SearchReg.txt' is saved in the same folder FRST was started from. Notepad will open this file also. Close Notepad and attach the file 'SearchReg.txt' to your next reply.
9. You may close any remaining open windows now.

Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.

1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
3. Press the Fix button.
4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
7. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Help me out this time, please... which one would be the "Fix" button? What I see would translate to "Check", "File Search", "Registry Search" and "Remove", but no "Fix"...

frst_screen.jpg

My first try was hitting the "Check" button, which returned two files, "FRST.txt" and "Addition.txt". Are those of any help? No fixlog.txt was created however...

Help me out this time, please... which one would be the "Fix" button?
It's the button "Entfernen", the most right one.

First of all, happy new year and thanks a lot for all your help so far! :thumbsup2:

I ran the fix, but had to zip the fixlog.txt... seems to have worked though.

Happy new year to you too.

Check Windows Update again and report the result.
If it fails, run sfc /scannow again and attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.
