Hi,

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth failed with the error message:
error 0x800f0906
The source files could not be downloaded. Use the "source" option...go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077
Alas, I couldn't make out anything from the given link.

I enabled connection to windows updates directly, via gpedit.msc, as suggested here
www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-corrupt-windows-image-error-0x800f0906
It didn't help.

Per www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-corrupt-windows-image-error-0x800f0906 I also tried this:
elevated cmd
net stop wuauserv
cd %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution
ren Download Download.old
net start wuauserv
net stop bits
net start bits
net stop cryptsvc
cd %systemroot%\system32
ren catroot2 catroot2old
net start cryptsvc
then reboot
No success.

sfc/scannow reported it'd found corrupted files but couldn't fix them.

There is an old thread in this forum, about the same issue, then, however, it occurred in Windows 8 and vanished by upgrading to Windows 8.1. I'm running Windows 8.1 (64 bit).
https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...nup-image-restorehealth-error-0x800f0906.html
Following the instruction there, I'm enclosing the compressed CBS file.

What should I do?
Many thanks,
Georgey

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Is it your intention to update to Windows 10? It's only free through July. Let me know.

So I can have a fresh log, can you please do the following.

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
Warning:this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right-click on the Start
    w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. If prompted to overwrite the existing file go ahead.
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please zip/upload to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big (over 7MB) to upload to your next post, please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Hi Brian,

I've tied to upgrade to Windows 10. After many failed attempts I found somewhere that the system drive must be re-formatted to a different method. Then I gave up, what I've read about the difference is not so important to me.

Please find enclosed the fresh, compressed CBS file.

Initially I had with VPN, that's why I ran scf/scannow, and restorehealth. Both failed, so I guess there must be something the matter. Also, sometimes I get the blue-death with 'bad pool header'.

Let's do one more check and then I can direct you to the proper forum for resolution.

SFC Scan
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Right-click on this file and choose Send To...Compressed (zipped folder). Please upload this zipped file CBS.zip to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Thanks. Let's fix the following.

Wow, sfc/scannow reported: Windows Resource did not find any integrity violations.
Thank you so much.

Please find enclosed the new files.
Is everything fixed now?

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Scanhealth didn't find any store violation either. (Just in case I'm enclosing the new cbs)

You are great, thank you very much!

Looks good. So at this point all of your Windows Update/Servicing corruptions have been resolve. If you are still having other issues then you need to post an inquiry in the proper forum. The blue screen issues would be my first priority. I would post an inquiry in our BSOD forum. The experts there have much more knowledge than me in this area.

Thank you very much once more, I trust everything is fine now.
In case BSOD occurs again, I'll follow your advice.
