[SOLVED] dvd/cd rom disappear like a magical act

My Toshiba satellite laptop l555d windows 7 64 bit dvd/cd rom appears and disappears like a magical act on its own. There is no trace of it in the device manager or the disk management there is no upper or lower filters in the registry.I have search the web for answers but there is no definitive solution to my particular situation. Does anyone know the answer to this weird phenomenon? Thanks for indulging me.

1. Is it shown in the BIOS?
2. Open Admin Tools, Computer Management then Disk Management (if you don't see it, click on View and select View Hidden Devices)
Assign a letter to your optical drive.

Hello Mrs Plodr the bios gives me a option the boot from dvd/cd device manager and disk management there is no trace of a dvd/cd even in revealed hidden view. Just two days ago the dvd drive shown up and then it disappears from time to time. I need that dvd drive to be present so that I can reinstall my microsoft 2007 office on that machine, also I created a windows 7 repair disc so when needed I can fix some things on this machine.

Then you'll have to open up the laptop and see if there is a problem with the connection of the optical drive to the motherboard. The fact that it appears and disappears leads me to think that the connection is loose.

My netbooks have no optical drives so I don't know much about the connection of one. I don't have any old laptops with CD/DVD drives around. They have all been e-cycled.
I restore images to my netbooks from a USB attached external hard drive after booting from a USB stick.

Yea looks like I must go inside the laptop and see what's going on.

I uninstall and reinstall the dvd drive but to no avail ,the optical drive connecting to the motherboard what do that look like? and how do I assess that without totally taking apart the laptop? my skill level in disassembling the laptop and re assembling is not that high doubt and fear has come upon me lol.

Softwaremaniac first of all I want to congratulate you on reaching and surpassing that high mile stone of 16,000 posts only thoroughbreds reach those heights and secondly as you were responding to my post I was just coming on the forum and explaining how I stumble on the solution to this weird problem I had. My dvd and my wireless wifi internet connection was non functional and I fix the wifi issue with a usb wireless adapter which I plug into the usb port but that port was the esata usb port that was unbeknownst to me at that time . The wifi was working but the dvd drive disappeared and when I notice that the usb adapter was plugged into that usb port I switch the adapter to a regular usb port and the dvd/cd rom appeared . It seems that using the esata usb port by mistake cause conflict with the dvd/cd rom drive some way, now the dvd/cd rom has reappeared and its working fine. I have turned the laptop on off 7 times to see if this fix will hold up and so far it has. Thanks everyone for your time and attention assisting me and guiding to take courage and go inside this laptop and investigate this problem more deeply. I notice all the techs and members that looked at this post with much gratitude and appreciation . HAPPY NEW YEAR TEAM.
