[SOLVED] Dual Partitions Disk 0 will not boot

Help please...I have an old 2008 Gateway desktop computer that is running pretty good. I have 2 500GB hard drives. Disk 0 has Windows 8.1 Pro N installed on it for many years. I installed Windows 10 Pro on the 2nd Partition. When my system boots up I get an option to Boot from 1- Windows 10, 2- Windows 8.1. As I boot up I click on Windows 8.1 and then the computer restarts and is Stuck in Windows Automatic Repair loop. I have tried resetting with Media DVD but it will not accept any of my Windows OS's. I am not really familiar with the Command Prompts that I can use?. In Disk Management I see the C drive and D drive when I am in Windows 10. I cannot format Disk 0. Both drives are Primary Partitions. It's been 5 years since I have had this dual setup and sadly have to say I have forgotten alot of things. It is confusing when Disk 0 is the D drive.

Please let me know what you need from me or any advise is appreciated...no hurry for I cannot get to my Gateway Computer today. :banghead:

I am not able to chkdsk /F to fix errors on the D Drive. Sorry..the picture is sideways for some reason.:r1:

No I tried that and there were not any Restore points. Can I just format the D drive in Windows 10? Even with the Drive being Disk 0?
 
I will do the HDD tests that you linked me to. Probably tomorrow! Thank you! Its late here and I have to get some sleep.
 
That depends on the boot configuration. If it contains critical boot data required for the other OS to boot, then you may not be able to boot altogether. That should be checked out before attempting anything like formatting and similar.

Sorry to say I haven't made it to the basement to do my job on checking out the HDD Testing yet. Looks like I will have to do that this weekend. Just a crazy week going on here...

But lets say if that HD, Disk 0 (D) is bad, what can I do in that senerio? Disconnect that HD and format the other drive? Would I have to change the jumper pin to Cable Select?

I still have to back up my Windows 10 (C) yet as I am not worried about losing anything on my other drive running 8.1. Just wondering. :huh:
 
Hi!

First and foremost, backup everything you need. As far as I have understood you can boot to Windows 10 HDD? If so, back up everything you need from there and while you are there, please get me a fully expanded screenshot of Disk Management. After all of that has been done, we'll proceed. Sounds good?
