  • Sometimes when I'm playing a game, my PC either freezes completely (displaying what was last on the monitor), or BSOD's.
When I try to turn it back on, it turns off immediately. So I have to turn off the PSU, unplug the PSU, turn PSU on, hold the power button for a few sec, turn the PSU off again, plug PSU back in, then power on. After this it works again.

  • I have done:
  • sfc /scannow
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:repairSource\install.wim
  • Re-installed windows
  • It's a custom built desktop

  • Windows 10 Home
  • Version 20H2
  • Installed on ‎12/‎14/‎2020
  • OS build 19042.685
  • Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0
  • 64 bit
  • Full retail version of windows

  • Motherboard, CPU, RAM, and PSU bought in 2016

  • Fresh install

    SPECS:
  • i7-6700k
  • 2x Kingston HyperX KHX2133C14D4/8G | slot 2 & 4
  • GTX 1080
  • MSI H170A GAMING PRO (MS-7978) (U3E1)
  • Corsair CX 750M | 750W

  • No idea about driver verifier
  • Just default windows defender and firewall stuff
  • No vpn, proxy etc.
  • No disk image tools
  • Not that I'm aware of

I have enabled driver verifier now, will post result if I get a new BSOD. Usually happens when I'm playing games, so I can probably force it.
I also just disabled XMP in my bios, incase that's troublesome.

The call stack is unreadable in the dump file unfortunately, so we'll have to wait to see if DV brings up anything.

Just got a driver verifier BSOD
The crash occurred when I was playing a game, and it was stuttering, so I closed malware bytes, then it crashed.
I only just installed malware bytes because the posting instructions suggested it incase of malware.
But this problem happened without malware bytes too.
I will uninstall malware bytes and see if I can get a new BSOD

Looks like the issue was was related to Malwarebytes in this case, did you remove it with the official removal tool?

Ok so my PC just froze when I was playing, no BSOD, just the last frame still shown on screen. Any ideas?
It kept doing the power loop I explained, so I've increased the fan speeds, but I doubt it was overheating.

Ok so I've been playing for a while now after messing with some fan curves and my GPU factory overclock, I also swapped my ram sticks for no reason, but the game seems to be running good now. I'll make another reply if it freezes again

Have you removed any overclocking? Please keep us informed, I had a Malwarebytes update this morning so it may be worth installing the later version if the system remains stable.

Not sure if I removed any overclocking, but I clicked default in the program and I also made the fan curve more aggressive. Since then I haven't had any issues.
I didn't use malwarebytes before I made this thread, maybe I'll download it again, I just don't see a reason to have it atm. Have done just fine with windows defender hehe.
I'll play some more games, see if things are stabile. If they're not, then I'll get back to you later :)
