Hi there,

I hope that you could help me with my problem, I got a new laptop to use for my audio software, but I'm getting DPC latency problems and audio glitches. :-(

I made a fresh Windows 8.1 install and installed just the necessary drivers and my audio software.

I did a DPC Report that I'll post below.

My LAptop:

Operating System Windows 8.1 Core x64

Hp Envy15-k000ng

To properly troubleshoot issues with high/frequent DPCs/IRPs, we require a XPERF trace. Please follow these steps to generate one:

  1. Download Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) for Windows and run the setup.
  2. Select Windows Performance Toolkit feature (all the others can be unchecked) and proceed with the download/installation.
  3. Once the installation finishes, open an elevated Command Prompt by right-clicking on CMD.EXE shortcut in your start menu and selecting Run As Administrator from the context menu.
  4. Type the following command, which will start tracing, in the Command Prompt window you just opened:

    xperf -on PROC_THREAD+LOADER+PROFILE+INTERRUPT+DPC+DRIVERS+POWER+IDLE_STATES -stackwalk Profile -BufferSize 1024 -MinBuffers 256 -MaxBuffers 256 -MaxFile 256 -FileMode Circular
    If you see a yellow warning "xperf: warning: This system is not fully configured for x64 stack tracing" after running the above command, please complete these extra steps (otherwise, proceed to the step #5):

Latency issues while using external sound cards/MIDI controllers are quite common and they are also quite difficult to troubleshoot. I cannot point to the exact cause, but there are few tips:

  • Try using different USB ports
  • Try upgrading RANE ASIO Audio Driver
  • Upgrade drivers/firmware for your external audio devices
  • Read the forums for the devices you use
 
I tried all the above . changed the USB ports and upgraded to the newest drivers.
The problems only occur when I do something else then directly using the software. For example, adding new files.
With latencymon I got the result, that wdf01000.sys seems to be the causing these issues.

What if you remove RANE ASIO Audio Driver completely?
 
wdf01000.sys is the Windows Kernel mode Driver Framework.
It's used to support Kernel drivers for Windows 2000 and later versions; all drivers developed for the Windows Driver Foundation are supported by KMDF.
The Windows Driver Framework is separated into two sections, Kernel Mode Driver Framework and User Mode Driver Framework, each used to support the implementation of device drivers into Windows.

With all this said, it seems like some 3rd party driver is causing the latency problem but trying to identify it can be time consuming.
I just wanted to answer your question, I'll leave the rest with Tomas.

It still seems to be related to strmdrv.sys, which is a RANE ASIO driver, so, once again:

  • Does SL 3 have the latest firmware?
  • What is the version of the driver? Is it really the latest?
  • Have you tried using ASIO the driver from SERATO?
  • Have you tried changing ASIO settings?
  • Would ASIO4ALL driver work?
 
My SL 3 has the latest available firmware,
I dowloaded the beta version because it has newer drivers, to get the newest available drivers,
the serato driver won't work with the software serato dj, just with a different software called scratch live
i got a driver panel for the SL 3 can I change the ASIO settings in there?
ASIO4ALL didn't work. :-(
