Hi again
Thank you for the kind words ... but you know, I'm an old Grump! :) (appreciated)
Calcifer - I think you'll be best off with the step-by-step approach (you can print that last post if you'd like). It will help you narrow down any source of trouble that might surprise us. By not using older drivers from downloads, you can give Windows 10 the chance to use it's own library of drivers -- usually provided by the vendors that made your hardware. Later on, if something seems "left out" ... we can discuss the options.
The way you had the page file setup was fine (it was on the same drive as Windows ...the SSD). I do like the idea of a set range for Virtual Memory (8192 MB for the lower setting and 16384 for the higher setting) .... it's nice and generous, and allows a misbehaving game with a memory leak to not kill your system right away.
I'm not all the well-versed in all the UEFI options ... I'll have to check on the Smart Connect options. I expect that it is probably best left disabled (since it has been discontinued). I'm hoping the old Smart Connect driver won't get installed onto your new installation, since we'll be avoiding the older drivers.
The Windows Update issue was one of the main reasons I advised the fresh start. I believe the background tasks were having issues, so Windows Update wasn't able to connect (it didn't know that there were newer updates, because it never reached the Microsoft site).
Regarding OneDrive, it is built-in to Windows 10, but you don't have to use it. When the time comes, visit the Microsoft site with the instructions on how to turn it off permanently. If you have any questions about it, let us know.
Turn off or uninstall OneDrive - OneDrive
You might be able to find those instructions in Italian, if you have a local Microsoft site (or use Google Translate to translate the page from English)
Ciao :)
P.S. .... Almost everyone in my family is a big fan of Studio Ghibli and their work ... so amazing, what's not to like? My oldest daughter's favorite is Howl (though they are almost all favorites) ... I liked Kiki when my kids were little, and I thought "The Wind Rises" was a wonderful farewell ... like a visual symphony!
