Hi,
Just to let you know I'm a bit of a newbie on SFC errors,so please excuse my lack of knowledge when explaining.
My PC froze a couple of days ago,so I did an sfc /scannow which came up with errors that the scan wasn't able to fix,so after googling this I found posts explaining the DISM Restorehealth scans.
First I did the Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth scan, which completed successfully, then rebooted and and re-tried an sfc /scannow, which still came up with errors, so then I tried DISM /RestoreHealth /Source:wim Command using the Windows 10 ISO mounted on the DVD drive, which completed successfully, so rebooted, tried an sfc /scannow which still came up with errors, so then I downloaded installed a new ISO via the Windows Toolkit and did a DISM /RestoreHealth /Source:esd Command which completed successfully, rebooted the tried another sfc /scannow, which came up with errors yet again.

Can anyone help me out and tell what I'm doing wrong for the sfc scans not to complete with errors all the time?
Many thanksView attachment CBS.zip

Hello and welcome to the forum

Download and Run SFCFix

Please download and run SFCFix from >Here<

It will take about 15 minutes to process. Once the scan has completed a notepad file will launch with the results. Please copy and paste the entire contents of the results and post them back into this thread. Please put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Hi GTP,
Yes I'm still running Avast Free, I uninstalled it the other day with the Uninstall Ultilty because it froze and reinstalled with a fresh install (about 4 days ago).
What do you recommend?
Shall I uninstall Avast again using the utilty and wait till all checks have been done with SFCfix, then reinstall?
I really like Avast Antivirus, not had that much trouble before, or maybe I should install AVG Free instead? or one of the other free Antivirus?

If its poissibly Avast thats causing the sfc errors, maybe another Free Antivirus would be better? (I've had the sfc errors for quite a while as the pc still works ok, no BSOD just the occasional freeze, although when I was on the phone to my pc tech help, they told me to take out anything from the usb ports, ext hard drives etc. I got a few BSOD's after reboting a few times, put all ext hard drives back etc.and got no BSOD's.

Hello again,

AVAST! is causing this error inside SFC /SCANNOW this file is related to it. As you like AVAST! what we will do is try a few things to fix see if we can make that error go away first, this error will most likely not affect Windows update from working, but will appear every time you run SFC. If we can't get this fixed we can look at changing the antivirus, or logging a support ticket with AVAST! as this might be a bug.

Please follow the below steps in order:

1) First download a fresh copy of AVAST! Antivirus from Here

2) Once the new version of AVAST! has downloaded, Uninstall the corrupt version on your machine:
  • Right click on the Start button => Click on Programs and Features
  • Find AVAST and choose Uninstall (If there is a prompt to Restart your machine, please restart)
  • Once it has been uninstalled, please run the Removal tool
  • Install the version of AVAST! you have just downloaded.

3) Run SFC /SCANNOW again and upload a new log:

SFC /SCANNOW
  1. Right click on the
    aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39.jpg
    button
  2. Click on Command prompt (Admin) => Press Yes on the prompt
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with rest of the steps.
Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt
  1. Right click on the
    aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39.jpg
    button
  2. Click on Run => Inside the run box copy and paste the following command:
    Code:
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  3. Press Enter
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt, please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.txt For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.txt"
  5. Please upload CBS_{Username}_{Date}.txt to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

If the errors are still around, I will ask you to upload the file that is causing the issue along with some of the files data.

Hello rg2clive,

You did perfect, thank you. As the file is still showing as corrupt I would like to examine the following files.

Can you please go into C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests and copy the following files to your desktop:
amd64_avast.vc110.crt_2036b14a11e83e4a_11.0.60610.1_none_d58a6d64ab65b396.manifest
x86_avast.vc110.crt_2036b14a11e83e4a_11.0.60610.1_none_1d37a43bbfe1dc9c.manifest

Then zip these files up and upload the zip file to your next post.

Can you please go the following location C:\Windows\System32\config and look for the following files:
-COMPONENTS
Please create a folder on your desktop and copy and paste the COMPONENTS file into this folder.
Next can you please zip this folder -> Please name this zip file to COMPONENTS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.zip For example "COMPONENTS_Go The Power_1803.Zip"
Once done, upload them for me to analyze. The file may be too big to attach to this post, please use either Dropbox or One Drive.

Hello again,

Thank you I have the components hive and the files, but I also need the manifest files:

Please go into C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests folder, can you see the following files?
amd64_avast.vc110.crt_2036b14a11e83e4a_11.0.60610.1_none_d58a6d64ab65b396.manifest
x86_avast.vc110.crt_2036b14a11e83e4a_11.0.60610.1_none_1d37a43bbfe1dc9c.manifest

If yes please upload them to your next post :)

Alex

I've been googling the best free antivirus programs, and most reckon Avira is the best, which I have used before but can't remember why I changed to Avast, so I might change back to Avira, if necessary.Avast has caused some problems recently.

I've been using Quihoo 360 Total Security on my Smartphone for a few months now and its gr8 on the smartphone, so much easier and resource heavy than Avast which I used before.
