Event Viewer reports 3 Errors:

  1. Event ID 10005
  2. Event ID 10010
  3. Event ID 3002

Event ID 10005,
DistributedCOM, General: DECOM got error 1068 attempting to start BITS with arguments "" inorder to run server 4991D34B-0891-4291-83B6-3328366B9097
After reading the General description I wondered what's BITS? I Googled BITS and now I know BITS stands for Background Intelligent Transfer Service. I click on the Start button, then typed services in the Search Porgrams and Services box. After a click or two this took me to a list of services. I scrolled down to find Background Intelligent Transfer Service. The description said," transfers files in the background "" if the service is disabled then any applications that depend on it will be unable to transfer information. The Status was Stopped! There were two Dependencies, Com+Event System and Remote Procedure Call RPC. I scrolled to COM+ Event System and the Status was Stopped. Description said, "supports Systen Event Notification System (SENS) if the service is Stopped SENS will close and not provide logon logoff notifications. I clicked on Depenednicies and found DECOM Service Proess Launcher, RPC Process Launcher, and RP Endpoint Mapper. They were all running. What could have caused SENS to fail  I tried to find the server specified in Event Viewer ID 10005. I opened Regedit and searched for server ID 4991D34B-0891-4291-83B6-3328366B9097. Regedit did not find anything. What could have happened to server ID 4991D34B-0891-4291-83B6-3328366B9097

Event ID 10010, DistributedCom, General: the server 1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB9269F did not register with DCOM within required timeout

I searched the Registry for the server 1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB9269F and did not find it anything. What could have happened to delete server 1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB9269F

Event ID 3002
, General: Microsoft Antimalware Real-Time Protection has encountered an error and failed

To investigate Event ID 3002 I reviewed Windows Update History and found Microsoft Security Essentials KB 2310138 failed to update. Next I ran sfc /scannow. Windows Resource Protection didn't find any integrety violations. :smile9:

Can someone help a Cultural Refugee discover what's going on. I have had enough automated Registry cleaning tools. I would like to log events and analyze what is happening and then perform a fix. Can someone help do this?

Hi KCav :)

Simple question before we move on, are you running Windows 7 or Windows 7 SP1?

Do you have your Windows installation media? From what I can see, this error is caused by corruption during the installation of the SP1 update. If not, we'll try to find a way around it :)

I had the operating system installed on a solid state drive before the drive was installed in my laptop, so I do not have installation media for the operating system, however I made an image file of the system disk. The image file is stored on a USB hard drive. I have installation disks for the application programs, including Nuance's, Dragon Professional and Nuance's, OmniPage Ultimate, and Adobe, Photoshop Elements. Would you help me do a new installation?

By new installation, you mean restoring the system image you have on your current SSD?

Well, is your copy of Windows OEM or Retail? Do you know?
