Hey all,

I have a dual monitor setup on a desktop PC. I'm having a few different issues with my DisplayPort monitors, although I believe this is either software or graphics card related.

Issue 1: On occasion, both monitors will randomly lose connection simultaneously, and no longer be able to detect any input. This usually happens just after I perform a task in the second monitor, e.g. moving a Chrome tab / starting a video etc. This doesn't happen that often, but often enough to be annoying, and the only way to fix the issue is a full restart of the PC. This issue seems to have started in the last month or two, but has only happened a handful of times.

Issue 2: One monitor will lose connection / flicker, especially on going back to the PC after it's in sleep mode. Usually one monitor becomes active a lot faster, but windows are temporarily moved to the wrong monitor before the second monitor comes online. This has always happened since I installed both monitors around 8-10 months ago.

Setup:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB ram
Monitors are connected to DisplayPorts 1 & 2 on separate cables, with separate power supplies to the monitors.

Which Nvida driver package are you using?

There was a issue several years ago on Nvida cards and display ports, where they dropped out and most had to unplug and re-plug the DP cable to make it work again and only a few did it take a restart, I believe a driver update fixed it then.

My current driver looks like it's a few months out of date, but it's:

GeForce Game Ready Driver - Version: 460.79
12/09/2020

Currently updating to be 461.72 - 02/25/2021

Would have last updated in early December.

There's the obvious first - make sure all cables, including any auxiliary power cables to your graphics card, are tight and secure.

Consider swapping in a known good PSU to see if problem persists.

Not all video cables are created equal. Lessor quality (including many that come with monitors) often result in instability. This seems especially true with HDMI and DisplayPort cables.
This has always happened since I installed both monitors around 8-10 months ago.
And you had a single monitor setup before then?
