Hi there.

I just found this place after Google brought me to this thread.

[SOLVED] - SFC Scan Now and DISM Failure: cbscore.dll

My problem seems to be similar, yet not 100% identical, since my CBS.log show a different error message.
cbscore.dll [HRESULT = 0x800703e6 - ERROR_NOACCESS]
The rest is the same: DISM error (998 though instead of 193) & sfc scan not working.
It all started with the lovely KB5031356 installing a while ago, but I was hoping the problem could be fixed with another update.

I have attached the cbs log and the results of the componentscanner as requested in the instruction thread.

After suffering with this for hours, I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Step 1. Download

SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Wow, that fixed it right away. I could install one of the two pending updates directly and the second one after another reboot.
DISM runs to 100% without problems and SFC works again as well. It shows some damaged files it couldn't repair, but the main problem is solved.
You, sir, are a true hero and I will definitely remember this! Thank you! (y)

Hi, after running the fix and the SFC I get the same results. It reaches 100%, but the damaged file message still appears. Here is another CBS log.

Hi, after using the fix I ran DISM without problems. So I did another SFC scan which pointed out to some damaged files again. However, this time it said they could be repaired.
After running it once more it didn't find any problems anymore. So I guess you cleaned up flawlessly. (y) Any chance I could hire you for doing the same with my garage? 😄 JK
Again, thanks so much for the help! 🙏 People like you are rare nowadays, so stay safe and I wish you all the best!
