Hello All
Trying to help a friend out whose W10H machine has been failing updates since about May.
Discovered C was down to 15% free space, so moved user files to free space on D (separate drive), C now has 60% free, tried updates again, all still fail.
After some research ran DISM and gets to 4.5% and fails with the Error 582 and the usual "An illegal character was encountered. For a multi-byte character set this includes a lead byte without a succeeding trail byte. For the Unicode character set this includes the characters 0xFFFF and 0xFFFE."
sfc /scannow also fails with "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." error message.
Found this forum and downloaded and ran SFCFix and that produces the same result.
Am trying to avoid a nuke and start again scenario if I can help it.
Can anyone help please.
Have attached the DISM log file.
