[SOLVED] DISM Hangs at 40%. SFCfix finds corruption. Need SFCfix script.

Hello,

I'm having trouble with getting the .NET Framework installed on my laptop either manually or through Windows Updates and when I tried to run DISM.exe it hangs at 40% and says it found one or more corrupted files. I think from reading a few of these type of threads that the script requires customization garnered from knowing how to read the log. Compressed and zip'd the log so now it comes in at 28 MB, however I can't get the attachments pop-up for this site to let me upload (just sits swirling for a bit after I hit 'Upload' before it stops with no explanation). I uploaded to a service that temporarily hosts files here: cbs.zip :: Free File Hosting - File Dropper: File Host for Mp3, Videos, Music, Documents.

Best Regards,
(Hopefully, soon to be ex) GuyWithProblem1

Apologies for double posting but I can't figure out how to edit my own post. I followed the sticky and was able to use the SFCFix program to upload my log file to you guys by associating my username (it doesn't appear in the attachment pop-up for me so I assume you just can access it yourselves?). Also to add context, I'm trying to run DISM because my Windows Features list won't populate. It is completely blank and I'm having trouble with installing the .NET Framework. Also in general this laptop is awful.

Thanks.

Hi GuyWithProblem1 :)

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your issue. Do you still need assistance?

Yes. Sorry was out of town and this slipped my mind after a few days. Do you guys still have my CBS log? Or is there anything else I can provide?

I'll need a fresh CBS.log :) Follow the instructions below please.

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

Seems like there's a lot of files that needs to be repaired. Let's see if we can get a summary using SFCFix.

SFCFix - Run Only
Follow the instructions below to download and execute SFCFix, and provide the log.
  • Download SFCFix and move the executable on your Desktop;
  • Right-click on SFCFix.exe and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator;
  • Follow the instructions displayed in the console;
  • On completion, a log will open in Notepad. Copy and paste the content of that log in your next reply;
    Note: The log (SFCFix.txt) will be created in the same directory where SFCFix is run if it doesn't open automatically on completion.

I've seen worse don't worry :P This isn't that bad. I'll work on a fix when I get home, since I'll most likely need original installation media and also language packs to source the files.

I appreciate it sir. I cringed when I had to skip the installation media prompt because this laptop doesn't have a CD/DVD drive and it's been so long I don't even remember if I have those discs anymore.

Alright, follow the instructions below please.

Well SFC discovered a new bunch of corrupt payloads and manifest files. Let's get a summary once again.

Ran it the first time and sort of forgot about it, came back to it stuck at 40% 2 hours later. Closed it and re-ran it. This time it reached 100% in the 15-20 minute time span it estimated. But immediately below the 100% status it listed an error: Error 0x800f0906 and below that it said that source files could not be downloaded.

Then it went into running SFC scan which resulted in this log:
SFCFix version 2.4.5.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2015-10-07 22:30:53.978
Microsoft Windows 8.1 Update 3 - amd64
Not using a script file.

----------------------EOF------------------

Which seems positive but I noticed it states it didn't run a script this time?

Nope, I made you run the plain SFCFix, without any script :) Basically, I need either a SFCFix or DISM output as I can use it with an automation tool an Analyst made here to source files automatically. It's faster than going through the CBS.log and do copy/paste :P Let's see if we can get such a summary using DISM, even if it fails with an error code, I still need both the logs I'm asking for below.

DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption
Follow the instructions below to run a DISM operation on your system.
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Let the scan run until the end (100%). Depending on your system, it can take some time;
  • Copy the C:\Windows\Logs\DISM folder and C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log file on your Desktop, then right-click on it, go to Send to... and select Compressed .zip archive;
  • Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the DISM scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.
