I was forced to power off manually and was able to boot up on the next try. But when I ran sfc /scannow in the elevated command prompt it progressed up to 55% but then gave me the message "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." I had installed monthly Windows updates 3 days prior so I thought they might be the problem. But when I attempted to perform a system restore I received a message that there was something wrong with my drive. It asked me if I wanted to scan and fix the drive and I responded yes. I let the computer do its thing and when I returned it had rebooted successfully. I didn't know if the disk repair had worked so I ran chkdsk and was told their were no corruptions. I then performed a system restore and was able to this time. (Strangely, where it normally says upon reboot that the restore was performed successfully there was just a blank white box.) I then attempted to run sfc /scannow again and it still cut out at 55%. Then I performed dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth, dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth, and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and then sfc /scannow and received these messages: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3.9600] (c) 2013 Microsoft Corporation.
