I do not have access or sufficient rights to open msconfig, check the c drive , or run sf /scannow ,no command prompts or anything else can this sitution be fixed?

How long has this been occurring?

It sounds like your user account is a standard account instead of an administrator account. Are there any other user accounts on the system?

thanks for the response it just happen last night, and yes it does say standard account and when i check the administrative account the change reverts back to the standard account. and i am the ony user on this computer . I have a guest account that is not active.

yes i have disc's that would take everything off my computer and have my computer back too it's original pristine state.

Thank for the instructions , can i still perform the all that you have instructed without a previous resore point. before this mishap has happen i cleared the resore points because vista was taking up too much space on the hard drive.

I log in on the administrator icon and to my amazement i can do all things i could do before with all the privileges. the start up and the desk top icons are a little different but i can work around that and work with that. I can now go too msconfig, sfc/scannow, chkdsk, and correct many things. now i must perform that other steps to get all the way to where i was, you gave me hope when i was doubting, thanks for your time and instructions.

Thanks again for your input and guidance, my computer is back up and running as before. Steps 3&4 did it for me, once i logged back into the administrator account it allowed me to change the user account back to administrator from standard. logging in from the administrator icon i went to user account and made the change to my user account and to my surprise the computer acknowledge and accepted the change now things are back to normal. you can label this post solved.

back again with the same situation some how my user account when back to standard account and when i try too change it back to administrator it is grayed out. when i tried to download an update i get 0x80070005 access denied. also now i cannot go on the administrator log in icon without a password which i never had one from that account before ,can one of you professionals help me?

i continued with step no#5 here is what happen, the new account did not produce a new folder under my old user account so i could not paste the infro from one place to another . i could not change that account to a administrator account . the new account folder is in the new log in icon so i have now 3 log in icions with 2 that requires a password and the new account does not require a password as of yet. waiting for your direction to solve these issues.
