it came in a dell g3 3590 laptop. can someone tell me which company does the dell part number "400-BFJD" correspond to? i know that it is a NVMe SSD 512GB, but could not identify (from googling), the company that manufactured it. appropriate links proving the same would be much appreciated. thanks in advance. :)

In the past Dell has used different manufacturers without changing the part number so long as the specs were the same.

If JohnC at Bleeping can't find it, it may not be available to find. He's one of the best I've ever seen at researching. I'm not saying give up as I'll keep looking myself.

I found some info but it put me in the same place as you. It could be Hynix, Kingston, or Toshiba.

Do you have the laptop? If so and your comfortable performing this kind of procedure, pop the drive out and take a look at its sticker.

If you decide to do this, please shutdown, unplug and remove the battery before removing the drive.

Is the part labeled with the word "Dell"? I am just wondering why you say it is a "Dell part number"?

I have seen this with many manufacturers but typically, the part numbers are slightly different. For example, 400-BFJD might be manufactured by CompanyABC while 400-BFJE might be made by CompanyXYZ. Or it might be 400-BFD Rev.1 for ABC and Rev. 2 for XYZ.

Companies do this a lot for the end products too. For example, a Samsung TV might use the model number UN65TU7000FXZA at BestBuy but UR65TU7000FXZA for the exact same model sold exclusively at Walmart. This is actually a marketing "gimmick" used by retailers to get around "Price Match" guarantees. :(

Anyway, my point is, without some way of differentiating the makers, Dell would have no way of going back to the correct maker to address any quality control issues. So if the model numbers are exactly the same, there must be some other way to identify the OEM. Perhaps a letter in the serial numbers or some other identifying mark.

@Digerati, sir, that is what is printed in my laptop's invoice.

"400-BFJD 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive"

i have PM'ed you the details. it is a complicated problem. :(

Three ways to possibly discover the manufacturer. You need to do more than read the shipping label. That rarely gives detailed information.
1. Go here Crucial US | DRAM, Solid State Drive (SSD) & Memory Upgrades
and select Scan computer. If you are lucky, it will tell you the manufacturer.
2. Open Device Manager/disk drives and select Properties. Look through all the tabs and see if any information show more than the model name.
3. Open the laptop and remove the ssd and read all the labels on it.

@plodr, thank you sir, option 1, 2 tells me that it is a 512 GB sk-hynix NVMe SSD. option 3 is not feasible to me.

inputting my service tag into dell website showed that dell had mistakenly placed a sk-hynix SSD instead of the toshiba SSD as per dell website. so i was looking to clarify it by verifying using the dell part number from my invoice.

thanks all. dell has agreed to replace the SSD. you can mark this thread as solved. :)

@Wrench97, not a problem as long as the quality is the same, and the SSD is compatible with my laptop, its drivers/firmware work with my laptop without causing errors.
thank you very much for the link. :)

one more update:
to answer my own question:
i entered my service tag in the dell.com/support website and clicked on VIEW CONFIGURATION link, and expanded the 400-BFJD section. it turns out to be a collection of 3 parts:

2FD61,"ASSY,BRKT,SSD,2230,3590",1

2HMFM,"INFO,C DRIVE,PCIESSD",1

8C3CP,"SSDR,512G,P34,30S3,TOSHIBA,BG4",1

i am posting this here so that anyone looking for such information will be benefited. thanks all.
