I have a Dell 15Z Win8.1 laptop. It is working great - except for this problem.
When I try to use an external hard drive in a USB 3.0 SUPER SPEED enclosure - window 8.1 will not recognize the drive 9 out of 10 tries. Sometimes, the drive is recognized fine; but out of 10 connection attempts, maybe it will be recognized only once.
It CAN be recognized on my XP desktop and my Microsoft Surface RT...but not my Dell.
I updated all drivers from Dell and ran SCANFIX.exe from this site.
When I use the same hard drive in an older enclosure it works fine.
So it appears my DELL 15Z cant run the super speed 3.0 enclosure most times, and certainly the driveit cant be trusted for backups....can this be fixed?
