Hello,
Windows resets default apps like browser and media player ... etc when I restart my PC. How can I stop this ?. My operating system is windows 10 pro 64 version 20H2 ( OS build 19042.985 )

How to: Perform a Repair Upgrade Using the Windows 10 ISO file

Try an in-place upgrade or repair upgrade and choose to keep your personal files and apps. This will completely refresh Windows without deleting any of your personal files or programs you downloaded.

I just performed one a few days ago on a work computer and it takes anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, dependent on your internet speed, needed updates, and the speed of your computer.

A second of @xrobwx71's suggestion.

There is clearly some sort of corruption in your existing Windows 10 instance if it is resetting default apps at every restart. That is not now, and never has been, typical behavior in a properly functioning Windows 10.

The Repair Install technique can cure "a multitude of sins" in one fell swoop. I will note, though, that unless you happen to have a copy of the ISO file for the version of Windows 10 currently on your system you will likely end up doing a Feature Update (same steps, exactly) rather than a Repair Install. Windows 10 Version 21H1 just went live yesterday, and it's the ISO for that version that is now snagged from Microsoft. But the Feature Update may fix it, and if it doesn't, then I'd run the Repair Install with the ISO that just did the Feature Update. There are differences, however subtle, between the two processes.
