This has been happening for a few weeks now and I can't really find anything about It or how to go about fixing it. A few things I have tried is sfc and updating drivers, but I am on a insider preview of windows at the moment so I'm not sure if that is causing the problem or what.
If anyone has any idea of what this service does, or why is has high memory usage it would be very helpful.

I am on Build 21327.rs_prerelease.210226-1427
Also sometimes when I restart my pc the problem goes away and doesn't come back for awhile, and other times it starts on startup increasing steadily every second, either way, eventually my computer becomes very slow from the ram consumption.

In this scenario, we would like you to perform these steps and provide us the information for further investigation.

  1. Open Task Manager and select the Details tab.
  2. Check and note the PID number for svchost.exe that is utilizing the bandwidth.
  3. Now click on Start Menu and type CMD. Right-click on the CMD icon and select Run as administrator.
  4. Copy and paste the command and press enter: tasklist /svc
  5. Now compare the PID number you have noted previously with the list in the command prompt.
  6. Provide us the services name from the command prompt that matches the PID number.

Sorry for the late response. It might take me a while to do this because the problem doesn't always occur and just does it when it wants to, and right now it isn't a problem but I know that it will probably come back looking at what has happened over the past two weeks.

I woke up this morning and it was finally consuming copious amounts of ram.
The only one that matches in cmd prompt is
svchost.exe 1152 BrokerInfrastructure, DcomLaunch, PlugPlay,
Power, SystemEventsBroker

Do this for me please, when time permits. This will gather information about your computer and places us in a much better position to troubleshoot.

You don't have to create a new thread as it says in #4, continue posting in this thread.

Do you have a backup of your drive or at least a recent restore point? If not, please consider it before making any changes to your system.

You have some AVG services running.

Please download and use this to remove all traces of AVG. What it does is: searches your system for AVG and its remnants that might be left behind. It safely removes these remnants completely.

Make sure and uninstall the AVG system tuner and especially the driver updater. These driver update apps cause more problems than they correct. It's always recommended to get the drivers from the manufacturer of the hardware

You'll probably need a reboot after it's done. Please let us know how it goes.

I ran the tool and removed the traces of AVG. About tune up and driver updater, the only thing that driver updater does for me is tell me which drivers are out of date so I know which manufacturers website to look on which is nice to have. And I use tuneup to check for disk errors. I'm not sure that these would cause the problems. After the restart the DCOM Service is still rising in memory consumption, so if you think it is absolutely necessary to uninstall these apps then I will.

As long as your not letting the driver program "pick" the driver then that's cool.

Also, keep in mind, I'm not "telling you what to do with your PC" I'm only making suggestions based on experience. It's your PC and up to you to make the final decision. :-)

I'm looking over the logs in between customers at work, so please bear with me.

Start pending:
Network Location Awareness

In your Speccy log under services, the above has a start pending and thousands of errors in the event log seen here in the EvtxSysDump.txt file that was generated by running the Sysnative File Collection App. I'm suspecting this is the cause of the high memory usage.

Just to test, can you open your services by clicking Start, type Services, click on the Services that pops up. Once you get it open, look for Network Location Awareness. Right-click on it and choose restart. If it doesn't start, right-click it and choose disable and reboot. We'll see if that fixes it and go from there.

If anyone else wants to chime in, I'm on my way home from work so it will be a while before I log back in. Spring Break traffic at the beach! YeeHaw!

Thanks,

Start, type services. When you see services, right-click it and choose open as Administrator. Then try and start Network Location Awareness.

I also noticed you were running cFosSpeed. Please uninstall while troubleshooting. I tried to run this myself for a while and had a handful of issues.

I'm not sure how to uninstall cFosSpeed, or even how it got on the pc. Also I did the services in administrator mode originally and the Network Location Awareness status is stuck on starting.
