The Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Insider Preview (10.0.22622.440) (KB5015890) keeps failing with Download error - 0x800f0806. It's an official copy of Windows 11 Pro.

I've attached the CBS.log file here as zip and normal copy

Since this is a download error, could you please provide the WindowsUpdate.log file using the instructions from this tutorial - Troubleshooting Windows Update Log Errors

I've noticed that you've mentioned that you're running an Insider build too, please note that these are beta builds and bugs are to be expected.

Do you have any third-party firewalls or security programs installed? Why are you running a beta build of Windows 11 anyway?

I have Kaspersky Anti-Ransomware tool installed. I uninstalled that and tried too but it still gives the same error. I'm running a beta build because I look forward to some updates like Windows Subsystem for Android and other features that would benefit me as a developer. I also really really wanted to use the official Windows File Explorer Tabs feature.

Did you use their official removal tool? Let's clear out your SoftwareDistribution folder to ensure that nothing is cached, it will also force Windows Update to run a "fresh" scan of updates as well:

Rename SoftwareDistribution Folder

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    Rich (BB code):
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop bits
    rename %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak
    net start wuauserv
    net start bits

If there any issues, then please provide a screenshot of the Command Prompt window in your next post.

If that fails, then please ensure that your firewall settings have been set to their defaults since it isn't unusual for many security programs to fiddle with these, which then causes Windows Update to have difficulty with downloading updates. Could you please open an elevated command prompt and enter the following command:

    Rich (BB code):
    netsh advfirewall reset

Which official removal tool? The Kaspersky one? I clicked the uninstall from the start menu. It took me to control panel. I uninstalled it from there. It took me to complete a survey on the Kaspersky sit after uninstalling.

Also thanks for the above steps. I tried both. It still gives the same error.

I was checking the issues opened by other users on the Windows Troubleshooter page of the Settings app. Turns out there are a few users facing the exact same issue. Maybe there's just an issue with this update for some users.

You may wish to try the official removal tool which is available here - General articles

Otherwise, this could possibly be a bug with the XML action file associated with the update itself, since one of the errors within the log was the following:

WU_E_XML_INVALID wuerror.h
# Windows Update Agent found invalid information in the
# update's XML data.

I've tried the Kaspersky official removal tool but I still face the same issue.

It's quite possible that it's a bug with Windows update itself. I've noticed that the update number (KB5015890) I mentioned here has changed twice (that I noticed of at least). It's currently (KB5016694) and the name is Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Insider Preview (10.0.22622.575)

I've checked the history and can confirm that the update name and number is just being updated. Because the one I mentioned here is not anywhere in the update history.

This could possibly mean that Microsoft detected the issue and is trying new updates to fix it right?

Most likely and it seems that a number of people have been having issues with the Insider updates recently. You could try and get the latest ISO from UUP Dump and then perform an in-place upgrade with it?

Yes true. I tried getting the latest ISO from UUP Dump. And I did an in-place upgrade. Thanks a lot man. It worked. You're a genius!!🙌
