When I use the credential manager in Win 8.1 Home 64x with an admin account, I receive the following error:
"Credential Manager Error"
"An error occurred while performing this action."
"Error code: 0x800706BA
Error message: The RPC server is unavailable."
I've tried the following but none of them fixed the problem:
Checked to see if DCOM Server Process Launcher, Remote Procedure Call (RPC), and the RPC Endpoint Mapper services are running and set at automatic (they are);
Used regedit to see if the start variable for these services are set at 2 (they are);
Checked firewall to see if Remote Assistance is allowed (it is);
Checked to see that file and print sharing and IPV4 and IPV6 are enabled in the network adapter properties (they are);
Reset Internet Explorer;
Disabled firewall;
Uninstalled the antivirus (Kaspersky Security Cloud free);
sfc /scannow (no problems);
chkdsk /r (some orphan files, but no problems in subsequent scans);
Went to safe mode;
Logged into another account;
Did a clean boot;
Did a system restore using a point at 11/10 (the earliest available);
Used a full backup from 11/5 (the earliest available);
Ran Windows Repair;
Ran Glarysoft Registry Repair;
Ran ADWCleaner (some PUPs);
Kaspersky, Malwarebytes, and Zemana scan (some PUPs);
The only thing that fixed the problem was a Windows refresh, but many customizations (such as grey backgrounds for some apps) and software were removed, so I have to reinstall and reconfigure them.
For now, I restored the whole system, with the problem still taking place.
If there is a way for me to fix this problem without having to do a refresh, I'd appreciate it.
