Could not change brightness on Lenovo Laptop

Hello, my mom's laptop is set to the maximum screen brightness and does not respond to any attempts of adjustment. I have visited the Device manager already as instructed in some videos I have come upon on the web but unfortunately, none of them works for her case. I can see a warning symbol beside the display driver, Intel (R) UHD Graphics 610. The device status says, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The path may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) {Path not Found} The path %hs does not exist. Hoping for some help. Thanks!

The first thing I'd do is go to the Lenovo Support Page for the make/model in question and download the Lenovo Vantage (I think that's the name) software that is the Lenovo proprietary driver updater. Lenovo uses tons of customized drivers and it sounds like one of them has "gone wonky."

If you can't find Vantage then definitely look under Software & Downloads, Drivers section, for the graphics/display related drivers, snag them, and reinstall.

It could really help if you wouldn't mind posting the exact model of your mum's Lenovo laptop. That's usually easy to find by flipping the laptop upside down. There should be a sticker there that shows the Model Number of the Laptop. Take a note of the model number of the Laptop and post it in your next comment. Once we have that, we can look at the Lenovo site for you and point out exactly what you should be downloading. If the sticker is not there or missing, then download something like Speccy Free, install and run it. It will show you exactly which model the laptop is, including a whole host of other useful information about the hardware.

Thanks, Andrew

Andrew, I hate to argue, but I have never, ever found any utility, including Speccy and Belarc Advisor, that will give the actual model number of the computer.

Even the Windows System, About Pane doesn't reliably present that information. On the laptop I'm typing from, the Windows, System, About page shows HP Envy TS 15 Notebook PC. Speccy thinks it's a Tablet (as it does for many laptops) and presents no model information for the PC as a unit that I can find.

I have spent years trying to find a single utility that would reliably return actual model information, and none seem to exist. And this seems to be largely because that exact information is not built-in to the hardware/UEFI for querying.

I always end up asking people to look on the device itself for the 100% accurate answer, but if the information is not present then the Windows Settings, System, About pane gives the same thing I've seen any other utility give.

You're perfectly correct Brian. I miswrote when I said the model of the computer.

What tools like Speccy and Belarc Advisor do is indicate the mainboard model and I've found with that information, it's usually possible to nail down the model of a brand PC as well. Of course, it's easier if a person can provide the details from a sticker, physically looking at a mainboard, or in the case of Dell machines, the Service Tag number, but when that's not possible, the details that both Speccy and Belarc Advisor provide I've found are usually sufficient to nail down what a user has. Particularly useful for users that are not very technically inclined.

I appreciate the correction.

Regards, Andrew
