Hello!

So I have this NIC Intel 82579V and it is currently working kind of ”50%” since because I was unable to update the NIC’s drivers earlier, I tried then removing it manually but googling and searching the correct files to delete and also deleting the correct Registry entries.

Of course I tried first uninstalling the NIC altogether via the Device Manager, but it wouldn’t uninstall. Anyway for some reason uninstalling from Device Manager works now so I uninstalled it, rebooted my PC and then tried reinstalling the drivers (newest version) but it won’t install. I only get the following error when trying to install the drivers:

reinstalling error.jpg

I have no idea what that means. So I had to restore my PC from backup in order to get my network working again.

Then I tried installing the newer drivers rawly on top of the existing installation and just got the same error. My network works anyway but there’s this thing that I did earlier when I tried to uninstall the NIC;
In Device Manager I selected “show hidden devices” and the under NETWORK hive I manually uninstalled everything that I could. That was the very first thing that I actually did, so all that I have written here became after that pathetic manual uninstallation.

Even if my network connection works but it doesn’t work 100%. You see, I have this Linux virtual machine installed on Oracle VirtualBox and I earlier had drivers, like “MAC miniport driver” or something like that under the NIC's driver list when I chose "show hidden devices" under Device Manager, and fully functional network communication between my Windows 7 host OS and the virtual Linux 7 OS requires that property of the NIC installation.

So::: how do I completely uninstall and get rid of the current Intel 82579V NIC?

I also have tried removing the Driver files from the PC so under Device Manager I opened NIC’s properties, opened the Drivers tab and there was a list of 5 files which supposedly are the driver files for the NIC. The picture of that Driver tab including the driver file list is below:

NIC driver files.jpg

So after uninstalling the NIC in an orthodox way, I then found all those files above and manually deleted them and rebooted my PC. Then I tried again install the NIC drivers and I STILL got that same error which is the first picture in this post (error 1316…). So the NIC didn’t install again, and again had to restore my PC. I have also tried uninstalling all the hidden networking components via device manager by showing hidden devices, and I uninstalled all that I could but I couldn't even uninstall them all. So now my NIC is installed only half way because those hidden components that I uninstalled, are no longer present.

So how do I really get rid of this NIC completely? So that it kind of never were even installed in the first place. What files do I have to delete and what registry entries would I have to delete + is there some other additional maneuvers I have to do? I just want to be able to do a NIC fresh installing making sure that all the original and needed files etc. are present + that Registry is in order in context of the NIC.

And yes, one thing that I found by googling is that all the Windows 7’s drivers are located under the directory C:/windows/systems/driverstore. Somewhere there. But the files’ and folders’ names are so cryptic that I have no idea what to delete.

Can you help me completely get rid of my current NIC and do a fresh and complete reinstall of the Intel 82579V NIC on Windows 7 x64?

Thanks a lot in advance and thanks for your valuable work.

-Tommi

Sadly, error code 1316 is a fairly generic error code that has been tied to all sorts of things from networks to Microsoft Office.

One thing I have noticed with picky hardware such as NICs is it is some times necessary to totally remove power when uninstalling old drivers. Remember, the ATX standard calls for the ATX PSUs to apply +5Vsb standby power to many points on the motherboard, including network adapters for such commands as Wake on LAN. So uninstall drivers, shutdown the computer then unplug from the wall for 15 - 30 seconds.

In some cases (for graphics cards too) short of a total OS install which is a last resort option, I have found installing a completely different card will force Windows to totally rewrite the pertinent Registry entries.

Does you motherboard have an integrated NIC?

Hi and thank You for the reply. I luckily got the problem solved; I found a Microsoft Fix-It patch that is designed to fix NIC installation errors, so I executed that patch without virtually any hope or belief that it would work. But it did. After applying the FixIt patch I rebooted my PC and then started installing newer version of the NIC's drivers - which I had earlier done dozen times - and FINALLY it went through without a hitch!!

I have an integrated NIC on my ASUS Z77a GD65 MO. I was getting pretty frustrated but thank God (or anyone for that matter) that it worked :)
