Hello everyone,

I ran the sfc /scannow command in an elevated cmd prompt, and there were some corrupted files that weren't able to be repaired. I have no idea what files could be corrupted. Attached is my most recent CBS.log. View attachment CBS.logAny help or advice is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. The CBS.log is very volatile so you need to send it fairly soon after running the command. Please do the following and we'll see if we can get you fixed up.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Hello Brian,

Thank you for the reply! Did as you asked and have uploaded the newest CBS.log file. Just wanted to update you on what has happened since. I updated to Win 10 in an attempt to solve the problem for myself to no avail. Not sure if this changes things, but thank you for your help. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nm3wlji98ala63a/CBSnewest.log?dl=0 Let me know if you are unable to view it. Thanks again.

Ironically the upgrade to Windows 10 did fix your corruption that you had in the previous OS but then you had a corrupt file in Windows 10 that was specific to the new Microsoft Edge browser in Windows 10. This should fix you up.

Code:
2015-08-17 21:21:13, Info CSI 00005137 Hashes for file member \SystemRoot\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-microsoftedge_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.10240.16425_none_1939bb028acb417f\MicrosoftEdgeSquare44x44.scale-125_contrast-white.png do not match actual file [l:106{53}]"MicrosoftEdgeSquare44x44.scale-125_contrast-white.png" :

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - Verify Corruption is fixed
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Items for your next post
1. SFCFix.txt
2. CBS.txt (only if it reports that you still have corruption)

I had the exact same error (as do many, it seems) your solution fixed it. Now getting no errors on SFC. Thank you very much!
