I want to thank you ahead of time for taking a look at my issue.

It first started as a Windows update failure issue as my system has not been able to update for the past several months. I am running Windows 8.1 on an AMD64 system, which was updated from Windows 8 some time ago. I first ran the usual“sfc/scannow” however it was unable to repair the corrupt files. Next I tried running the DISM tool however it still did not resolve the corruption issue. After scanning through my lengthy CBS.log I noticed several things including “pA=PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL(0)” and numerous “[DIRSD OWNER WARNING]” as well as “Ignoring duplicate ownership for directory". I tried to attach the whole log, but it was too large to upload here so I have attached a txt file with the last part of the log which includes the failed repair files.

Thanks again for your assistance.

That looks good now :)

No more corrupt files are being reported. The error message [DIRSD OWNER WARNING] is nothing to be concerned about this, it is a 'normal' error for SFC to report :)

Now with the corruption issue fixed , I need to address the problem that lead me to looking at the systems files.....the issue with Windows updates. I have been unable to update in a long time. I have tried the WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab which says it has corrected the issue(s), but updating still does not complete.

Below is a list of the failed updates:

What error message do you get when trying to update?

Windows Update Log

    aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39.jpg
    button
  2. Click on Run Inside the Run box copy and paste the following command

  3. Please go to your desktop and attach WindowsUpdate.txt to your next post

Thanks for your continued help. I tried to run the command above and no files was placed on the desktop even after 3 attempts.

Windows updates as normal then when the computer restarts it gets up to around 60% the states "We couldn't complete the updates, undoing changes. Don't turn off you computer." After undoing the changes it boots up as normal. If I go into the control panel under Windows updates, it doesn't show the updates that failed. However, if I make it search for updates then it failed updates appear again.

What we will try and do now is get the file manually.

Can you please go to C:\Windows -> there should be a file called WindowsUpdate.log -> Copy this file to your desktop -> zip up the file and attach to your next post.

Thanks

Alex

Please go into the Windows 8 Recovery Environment How to use the Windows 8 System Recovery Environment Command Prompt

First command to enter is wmic logicaldisk get name. you will be given a similar output to:

Code:
X:\Sources>wmic logicaldisk get name
Name
C:
D:
E:
X:

Now when you are in the RE the drive letters will often move around. start with the first letter that was provided in the list and enter in the following command (for this example we will use C:\ as it is the first one)

dir C:\
-This will display all the folders in the root drive of C

Can you see a folder called C:\Windows in list?
-If you can see C:\Windows then run the DISM command as DISM /Image:C:\ /Cleanup-Image /RevertPendingActions

If you can not see the Windows folder move onto the next Drive letter that we obtained with wmic logicaldisk get name and type in dir <DRIVE LETTER> (replace <DRIVE LETTER> with the drive you would like to check), can you see the Windows Folder?
-If yes, enter in the following command DISM /Image:C:\ /Cleanup-Image /RevertPendingActions and changed the C to what ever Drive letter has the Windows folder

Its just a case of going through each drive letter that was produced from the first list until the Windows folder is found then run the DISM command on that drive

It looks as though the Windows is on the X: drive, but I received and error which I took a couple of screenshots of.
Thanks! :smile9:

Sorry I need change my instructions, the X drive inside the recovery environment is for the RE image, that's why the error is coming back as the image is active.

When you ran wmic logicaldisk get name did you have a look at all the drive letters to see if one of the other ones contain a Windows folder?

Yes, it was the only drive I found the Windows folder. I will run the results again and try to post the results. Thanks for your continued help!!
