Corrupted files unable to be fixed for windows 10

When running both the sfc /scannow command and the SFCFix tool, errors were detected that could not be fixed. I stumbled upon this when trying to find solutions to my broken windows time (It just randomly changes time and date with no apparent pattern). Also, SFCFix now just crashes immediately when starting a scan, this is what the log says afterwards.

Hi there.

Apologies for the delay. Are you still needing assistance?

No problem. I'll have a look over your log and come back to you.

Thanks

Hi

Please do the following.

Retrieve Components Hive

1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

Hi

Please do the following.

SFCFix Script

Warning:
this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put </> tags around the log to break up the text.

Hi

I don't seem to be seeing the results of the script fix.

Please navigate to C:\SFCFix and look for a SFCFix logfile dated today. Open this file in notepad, click Edit > Select All and copy (ctrl + C) and paste (ctrl + V) the contents of this file to your next post.

That is what is in the log. Nothing else is inside of that log outside of what I showed you. After running it again multiple times, nothing changes outside of the date, time, and a bracketed number. (I have attached an image to show you)

Once again, not much of a change

I tried running it again without the script file after following your steps, and this time it says
<SUMMARY:>
<CBS & SFC total detected corruption count: 0>
<CBS & SFC total unimportant corruption count: 0>
<CBS & SFC total fixed corruption count: 0>
<SURT total detected corruption count: 0>
<SURT total unimportant corruption count: 0>
<SURT total fixed corruption count: 0>
I find this odd though because my windows time is still having the initial issue

OK

Please do the following

SFC Scan
  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
Note: If the file is too large to upload, use a file sharing service like Sendspace and paste the link here.

Hi

The only records in the SFC log being reported as errors are the windows defender powershell files. SFC is reporting these incorrectly due to a bug within windows.

More information and a resolution for this can be found here.

Are you having any problems installing windows updates or is the time/date change the only issue?

Hi

If your windows updates are working then the issue is not linked to SFC and windows updates.

I suspect this may be a hardware issue and my initial thoughts are that the CMOS battery on the motherboard may need replaced. This battery helps to control settings such as date and time.

I would try replacing this first to see if this fixes the issue. There is a short tutorial here for assistance.

If it does not fix this then you are welcome to post in our windows 10 technical forum here. In your post please provide a link to this thread so that the helper can see what has already been done or suggested.
