Hi, this is my first time posting, thank you in advance for your help.

I have a server that just will not download or install updates.

sfc /scannow

Returns "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service."

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Returns "Error: 126 - The specified module could not be found."

I have attached the CBS.log file.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Step 1. Download

SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Thanks very much for your reply and instructions.

SFC /scannow is now working, and Windows Update appears to be working now.

DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth is still not working though, I have attached a new copy of CBS.log.

Thanks.

Hi,

Please post a copy of the older CBS logs as well. What was the fault message after running DISM?

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply.

Hi, apologies but apparently the uploaded file is too large, there is an error message.

Hi,

Please find attached latest CBS - I installed Windows Updates and retried to repair the component store unsuccessfully.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks so much for your help, the last package fixed the issue and DISM now ran successfully.

The restore operation completed successfully. The component store corruption was repaired. The operation completed successfully.

Many thanks.

Hi,

You're welcome. I suppose that the latest updates are also successfully installed this time?
