Following a recent major system crash I now have these issues.
1. All Wi-Fi adapters (I tried 2 verified good USB wifi adapters in addition to the built-in) fails to install.
Wired LAN works without any problems.
Other USB components install normally upon insertion, only WiFi keep failing.
2. Taskbar LAN cable connection icon always has a Red X on it regardless connection status.

I disabled wifi card in the Bios to attempt fresh drivers re-installation as well as tried 2 additional USB wifi N adapters and both fails to install.

I suspect corrupt system files may be the cause
SFCFix found and fixed 5 corrupted system files on first run but there are many others it was not able to fix.
(attached SFCFix report of the 2nd run)
I don't have an earlier restore point to use.

Any help beside original image restoration will be great.

Thank you

Hi there odtmod,

Let's check your disk's SMART stats.

JcJ91sx.png
GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:

  • Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the content of the GSmartControl .zip archive and execute gsmartcontrol.exe; To extract you can right-click your mouse on the GSmartControl.zip file and select Extract.
  • Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
  • Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, copy and paste their name in your next reply (or take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply);
    info_failing.png

Thank you for taking the time.
I ran the test Extended Self-Test and no errors were found.
One thing that was odd; the estimated test time displayed was close to 4.5 Hours but the test completed in less that 30 seconds, is it normal?

I included screenshots and error report for your review

Thanks again

Very good. Let's check with SURT next.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

Download and run the System Update Readiness Tool for your version of Windows here: System Update Readiness Tool

NOTE: If you aren't sure if your Windows installation is 32-bit or 64-bit, check here: How to determine whether a computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of the Windows operating system

This tool will take some time to complete - when it has finished, attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log with your reply.

Looks good. Let's check for corrupt system files with SFC.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please zip and attach this to your next post.
