Hi,

I've been having driver issues for about a month. The main one has been that Apple USB drivers aren't installing, so I don't see my iPhone in Windows Explorer. I have been able to get sufficient control to Sync my iPhone, iPad and iPod.
Also Windows updates keep failing.
Today I have tried to connect my Boss GT-10 effects processor and updating the driver gives the message that, "The configuration registry database is corrupt."

This is Windows 10 (Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.379))

Looking at other entries on this forum I suspect that my DRIVERS file is corrupt, and that you'll need to see that to work that out. So please see attached.

Many thanks for looking.

Apologies for not running these details before:
SFC scan ran without error
DISM Reported the REstore Completed Successfully
SFCfix found no errors

Logs attached.

Error when updating drivers persists: "The configuration database is corrupt"

So the latest attempt to apply the latest Windows update results in the following Driver update failures:

I have no doubt that KB4505056 will also fail. Probably on reboot.

Sure enough. That failed during reboot.
Message is:

2019-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1809 for x64-based Sysyems (KB4505056) (3)
Last failed install attempt on ‎23-‎May-‎19 - 0x800703f1

So I thought I might try to update my current build cumulatively by downloading and installing each new update manually.
Therefore I downloaded windows10.0-kb4490481-x64_a07dfdc8de3f0c2f590c950410a8a40522cd07dd.msu (April 2, 2019—KB4490481 (OS Build 17763.404)).
This also failed on reboot. "Failed to install on ‎23-‎May-‎19 - 0x800703f1"

Hi. I understand you only have a few experts, but I would like to know whether anyone is looking at this. I did raise this nearly 2 weeks ago and am at the end of my tether with this issue.
Is there any more information required to progress this?

Hello and welcome!

Sincere apologies for this extensive delay!

Step 1 - Replace Drivers Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download DRIVERS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the DRIVERS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select rename. Rename it to DRIVERS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Drivers folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

This should fix you right up.

Hi,

Many thanks for your update, but I ran out of time and ended up reinstalling Windows a couple of weeks ago. At least this gave me a chance to have a bit of a cleanup of old Apps, etc.

Please close this thread (I couldn't see how to do this before).

Thanks.

PS: Apologies for the duplicate posts.
