Using Windows 8.1 Pro, Internet Explorer 11, & Norton Internet Security 2015 for Anti-Virus & Firewall Protection.

I would greatly appreciate if anyone could throw some light on the following information from my Windows "Update History" & "Installed Updates" list, most of it contradictory.

I have just discovered that my "Windows Update History" indicates that 15 attempted Windows Updates have not actually been installed (i.e. 15 failed installations).

However, in my "Installed Updates" list (which I had always assumed would list only the updates that had actually been installed), I get some contradictory information :

- "right-click" responses of "Uninstall" for 13 of the Updates, which implies that these 13 updates have actually been installed" (as would be expected of an "Installed Updates" list, BUT in contradiction to their Windows "Update History" status of "failed").

- get no response when I "right-click" on the KB2919355 update, which implies either that the KB2919355 Update has NOT been installed, or alternatively, that it has been installed, but CANNOT/MUST NOT be uninstalled, due to the dependnce of other Windows Updates on the KB2919355 update.

- no listing of the KB3065820 Update in the "Installed Updates" list, which would indicate that it has NOT been installed, which is in agreement with my Windows Update "Failed" status.

KB2919355 is often given as a "pre-requsite" for the installation of other Windows Updates, which I suspect might the reason that the other 14 failed Windows Updates were not installed, although I have not checked as yet to confirm this.

Hi Blue Robot

Thank you very much for your response.

There are no entries in the "Update History" showing that any of the updates with a "failed" status, has been successfully installed subsequently.

As explained above, 13 of the "10 June 2015 Updates", have a "right-click response" of "uninstall", which would tend to suggest that those 13 have in fact been installed. Refer to :

At the time I attempted to install these updates, I did not get any error messages indicating that the updates were not installed.

I made 2 attempts at downloading & installing 16 "Important" updates (100.5 MB) on the 10 June 2015, which included the 13 updates with a 'failed" status in the "Update History".

I cancelled the 1st update attempt after about 4 minutes of download time, in order to re-enable the Norton Internet Security Auto-protect (real-time protection), & on the 2nd attempt ("try again") the download completed in 45 seconds. My Internet connection usualy runs at about 1 MB/sec, so that the download time for the 100.5 MB of the 16 updates, would have been a minimum of 2.7 minutes, which would in keeping with a combined download time of 4.75 minutes for the 1st & 2nd download attempts.

The installation of the 16 updates completed in about 6 minutes. I do not know if that is a reasonable time.

I did NOT receive any error messages indicating that the installation of the 16 updates was not successful.

It is possible that the "failed" status in the Update History, might be due to the cancellation of the 1st attempt, and that the 2nd attempt successfully completed the download, & then the installation of all 16 updates, including the 13 listed as "failed".

In connection with a (different) Windows Update Error 80072EE2 problem that I was experiencing during July & early August 2015, I ran an SFCFix.exe on 2 Aug 2015, the results of which are in my thread https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...ows-update-error-80072ee2-sfcfix-results.html ; however I experienced a problem when I attempted to upload the CBSLog.zip file, possibly because it might have been too large.

I suppose that I can repeat the whole Windows Update problem procedure again, but not today.

It would be ideal to follow the Windows Update instructions again, it will help us find if there is any issues with Windows Update.
