Hi, I hope someone can help.
I'm not really sure where to start with this as the problem has got increasingly complicated in the last few days.
I have a Dell Studio 17 laptop running Windows 7 Premium x64. A week ago, Windows Update suddenly decided to download and install 11 patches, mostly hotfixes. What was odd was that most of these hotfixes were dated 2011/2013. They appeared to install successfully, but afterwards the laptop stuck on "configuring updates..." for over a hour and a half, which
has never happened before. Finally it rebooted and everything seemed to be working normally. However, on checking Update History one update called "Update for Windows",
which wasn't inlcuded in the original list of updates, was classified as "failed to install", with the error code 80244019.
I asked for advice on SevenForums and was asked to run a scan with MBAM, which didn't find anything, and then to run SURT and post the accompanying logs (I can post them here if necessary).
Although the logs didn't seem to show anything seriously wrong, Update has been acting very oddly since last night.
Whenever I run a manual check for updates, it says I'm up to date. But last night, and this evening, Update has spontaneously appeared in my system tray. Every time it says it's "downloading updates", then vanishes after a brief period, only to reappear and recommence downloading.
After an hour or so it finally finished downloading. The downloads are all "failed" and are three copies of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. driver update for AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series" all with the error code 80200010. Update also indicates there are two optional updates: one is an Intel Management Interface from 2013 and the other is a RealTek PCIe GBE family controller from 2011/2013.
I have no idea why Update has started doing this - it's never happened before. The admin who'd been advising me suggested I ask here as they couldn't help me any further and reckoned I have 'major problems', so any advice would be greatly appreciated (sorry for the extra long post).
