I recently took over a bunch of clients and had issues on about 20 servers. I've been able to repair all of them, but one. It seems the components for amd64_windows-defender-management-powershell are corrupted. I've tried SFC/DISM/DISM w/ the newest version of Server 2019 DC ISO from the MS VLK portal, and it just won't repair. Any help would be much appreciated! Anyway, here are my logs:

Thanks a ton, Gary. Here's the output and log file. I went ahead and ran sfc /scannow after DISM came back successful.

Please try updating.

If successful please let me know.

If not, please post me your latest CBS.log

I searched for Windows Updates and none were found. I then reset my Windows Update components and checked again - still nothing found. Ran through SFC/DISM Restore/SFC again and ran another search for Windows Updates - still nothing found. I do have a reboot scheduled for after hours (this is a SQL server in production), but for now, here is my latest CBS log file. Thanks again for the help.

So what updates are you expecting to install that are not being found ????

This server hasn't been updated in 3yrs. I was expecting at least the latest cumulative update to be needed. It may have already somewhat have installed with all the fiddling I've been doing with it, but before I reset the Windows Update components it was still stating that it hadn't been successfully installed. But, upon looking at my OS build (17763.4252), it looks like it might have already installed. Thanks for all your help getting me over the last hump of what was broken. I'll update the thread if it doesn't install/detect the next cumulative update.

We can always check whether ... KB5025229 ... has been installed or not if you want.

If you choose to do that, please do the following ...

  • Click Search and type CMD
  • Right click the CMD App from the search results and select Run as Administrator
  • With the App open ...
    • Copy/Paste the following Command into it ...
    • reg load HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\COMPONENTS
      • This loads your COMPONENT hive.
    • You can now close the Command window.
  • Next ...
  • Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop
    • Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST
  • Right-click on FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator
    • Copy and paste ... KB5025229 ... into the Search box.
    • Click the Search Registry button.
    • When the scan is complete ...
      • A log will open on your Desktop ... SearchReg.txt
    • Attach the file ... SearchReg.txt ... to your next reply.
  • You may close any remaining open windows now.

Yes, bit of an overkill, but it did determine that KB502599 certainly appears to be installed, and since nothing is being flagged in your CBS.log I'm presuming it's complete.

So looks like you're up to date.

So since we no longer need it, if you want to remove FRST and any files it created, please do the following ....

  • Rename FRST64.exe to Uninstall.exe
  • Double click on Uninstall.exe to launch it.
    • Your computer will reboot, and on reboot will remove FRST and all its files.

You're welcome. Glad we could help.
