Hi Folks,

My Windows 8.1 system won't install updates or any apps from Windows store. It would be great if you could help me fix my system!
I have attached a copy of my CBS folder and SFCFix.txt as instructed by you help pages. Unfortunately the full name of the prncacla.inf file isn't exactly the same as the one on you site so I didn't risk installing it.

I hope you can prepare a fix for this.

Kind Regards

Hello Mark,

Yes, you do have a different corruption, so good move starting your own thread. Once your problem is solved, I will be updating the tutorial. :)

I am currently downloading a copy of Windows 8.1 32bit so I can source the required files for you. I'll post back a fix when it's finished downloading (may be some time)

Hi,

Because I'm pushed for time, I'm going to put this fix out to you directly, then update the tutorial tomorrow.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard and X to open up the Power User Tasks Menu
  2. Click (or tap) Command Prompt (admin)
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately 15 minutes)

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

I've compressed and renamed the latest cbs.txt as cbsfix.zip

Thanks

Hi,

The SFCFix script ran perfectly.

What error code(s) are you receiving? I've packed up for the night, so can't do anything more today, but if you can let me know the error code(s), that'll help.

Edit: Oops, he reappeared :p

Hi Mark,

Just popping in quickly whilst Stephen is offline so he has the required information to troubleshoot this problem when he returns

What error does Windows Update fail with?

Tom
