Clients download from Microsoft instead of wsus?

Hello,
Searched around and can't seem to pinpoint an answer. If my clients are setup to download updates from wsus but the wsus server is down, will they grab the updates from Microsoft?
I use group policy and have it set to point to the server and wasn't sure if there's anything else that needed to be done to use Microsoft as a backup?
Clients are mixed Win7 and 10. wsus is server 2016. Thank you in advance...

Hi!

They likely won't as long as policy is in place. To restore Windows Update functionality from Windows Update instead of WSUS, you need to stop the Windows Update service and delete the following key:

[B]HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate[/B]

After that has been done, restart the Windows Update service.
