My win7 x64 ultimate partition, for the first time, but what a time its given me, headache after headaches...I tried doing it on my own only to hit dead ends, which is also highly irregular...

Okay, so I've been dealing with this since the March 2019 KB4474419 refusing to install but not only that, attempting to install any further updates except for .NET 4.6.x/4.7.x update packages and MSE updates (I got other defenses in place). So after getting the "Failure to configure Windows Update, reverting changes", one time, especially long any time I tried installing any further updates got me in a mess, the MS .NET packages verification tool log, I can provide, which is confusing, but looking at Installed Updates now says almost only just .NET 4.6.x/4.7.x are installed and visual studio 2010 c++ and a couple insignificant ones like Silverlight (just for skype).

The strangeness when trying to see what .NET packages I have installed from setupverifier_main_date_of_the_day.txt

When I try to install .NET 2.0 (believe it or not, a program I'd like to install wants it, the MS tool tells me I have them but I also that I don't at the same time? Same failure for the recent 3.x/4.x large update fails, except for 4.6.x and 4.7.x, when done manually from the files, it tells me "The update is not applicable to your computer". a scan with "Belarc Adviser" in its report tells me the updates that show up in my installation history in windows update are indeed still there, even if so little shows up in Installed Updates. So I got that cleared up. After doing a Windows Disk Clean-Up, the system got much more stable but also, I can't install a lot of things because it says I don't have .NET 2.0 SP1 and 3.5 can't be updated nor 4.0/4.1.x/4.2.x etc. etc.

Now, it seems to all be rooted in the fact that for some reason, the "Turn On or Off Windows Features" dialog box turns out to be empty. So I did a lot of thing Windows Update Troubleshooter, SFC /SCANNOW (says it's 100% fine), a few other things people said to do that was recurring like deleting some registry entry in particular, I don't even have it. Windows Update itself isn't broken, as in, it tells me when there's updates, but installing the packages it brings on this way is a surefire way for it to install things that won't install and give me a hellishly long "Failure to Configure Windows Update, Reverting Changes boot and reboot then getting the login screen and since I did the windows clean-up, maybe even before I wouldn't know, I only realized a lot of things depend on that Turn On or Off Windows Features.

So I installed the System Readiness Tool, I fixed a thing that makes the results of CheckSUR.log not as bad, as in I had to create a folder in the folder that log shows up in named packages and put there a .msu, that removed 2 lines of the awful result I get when the System Readiness Tool has done its thing and gives me the result...tens of thousands of errors :

Code:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 1099
 Found 167316 errors
CBS Watchlist Package Missing Total count: 113897
CBS Watchlist Component Missing Total count: 53419

So I see you guys have a great thread going on helping out people with SFCfix...I see I can't use the SFCscript.txt you provide to drop into the .exe for that tool, which I've tried on its own, as it was a suggestion I got when I finally was getting steered towards real answers. So, I can provide the entire thing (CheckSUR.log, the setup_verification_tool log for .NET framework packages. I've read how it would be a bad idea to use someone else's SFCfix script that you provide for people.

Shortly, I can't install new updates, for the most part, I can't install software that requires any .NET framework except 4.6.x/4.7.x, which are the only ones showing up in Installed Updates since the KB4474419 issue and reverting of changes. I did all of the basics here and more, it seems to all fall down to the Turn On or Off Windows Features tool that shows up blank and stays blank, which causes a lot of things not to work + the worrying CheckSUR.log results with the tens of thousands of errors that makes me wonder how the OS even boots up at this point, it's very stable, I can install driver updates still just fine but on the secure front? Heh, if I could just use some flavour of Debian right now, I would do so, but I can't, I need win7 to work until MS stops support then I'll see what I'll do.

I'll attach the 2 log files I've spoken of, although I expect you'd only want the CheckSUR.log file, if the files are too big I'll upload them to my favourite file hosting site, I've seen the threads where you helped out people with this particular situation with a lot of success unlike many places where the same questions/info is posted and there will be one helpful answer but one that doesn't go deep enough, I already did a lot of the stuff that should have solved the issue. So please, if you can help out, I'd be very glad, even send in a small donation right away if this is solved with you guys here, I know how it is to run a website/forum these days with the ads issues...

Thank you, have a nice weekend!

p.s. CheckSUR.log is too large, so I'll have to upload it elsewhere, here is the link :

Hello? I've been a good sport and waited since Sunday now, anybody can help? I think I've provided what is needed as I read a 4 page thread full of similar problems, I didn't post in it, because it was closed, somehow, although it seemed to be a thread for everyone with this kind of issue. I'm hanging by a thread here, I really don't want to reinstall win7, and now that I know that I fixed as much as I could by myself and there is what, 10 months left of updates for it, it's make or break for me. I really need help with this thing people. I've installed the updates for the only things I could in the .NET packages, 4.6.x/4.7.x, nothing else works as I described. I haven't even rebooted yet for fear of having to sit there and watch the Failed Configuring Windows Update, Reverting Changes... screen for 45 minutes....

Also, I'm aware that my next step might be to Clean Boot, except, can I really Clean Boot when Win7 x64 ult is not the first OS on the disk's partition (I have Linux Mint 18.3 on the first partition, then there is a data partition and then Win7 is there, on sdc3, or in windows language HD0,2. I didn't know it would ever give me issues when I installed the OS this way, it never did, only in march 2019 when MS released those 2 updates that seemed to want to install together successfully but never did, I managed to install the March 2019 security roll-up KB using the .msu file, but the KB4474419 (the SHA-1 installing KB, and how it will make any further updates fail if not installed, they say with win7 x64 it will be in August, but Security Roll-ups and Updates all fail to install since then (April Roll-Up gave me the same error as KB4474419 and same for the May one, so I stopped even trying). I don't know if I can manage to do one, unless I disable everything from starting at boot as I saw in the other thread with the guy having the same issue as me.

I suspect that maybe the very good ESET NOD32 could do this, although, all the research I've done since march when this happened, it looks like the crappier AV's out there like Avast!, McAfee and such would cause such issues, ESET I highly regard. I also have malwarebytes installed, my paid version, I never saw that one as a candidate for causing the KB4474419 mess. I did perform a Windows Clean-Up and it did make the system feel like a new install in many ways, but also after it, is when my Installed Updates window is almost empty, even though I've ran tests like I said in my previous post and I have everything installed, the regular updates that is, but anything .NET that is not 4.6.x/4.7.x does not appear there either, and anything relying on .NET 2.0/3.0/3.5/4.x (except 4.6 and 4.7) fail to update, being told the updates do not apply to my computer, which is a lie, as I have shown in my first post. If you absolutely need CBS.log, I'll need to know if there is a context needed. Is it after running SFC /SCANNOW, or is it after that and other events? I haven't tried to install KB4474419 since april, a waste of time. System Readiness Tool is clear that things are really messed up as you can see, tens of thousands of errors...

I've been recommended this message board by somebody who works in IT, so I take it you guys could be able to help, if you so desire, I have waited more than the time you're asking for in the top of the page now...I don't know what to do and I really do need a functional healthy win7 until I can't use it anymore, right now it's a saving money situation for a very expensive video card, since I can't use Linux with the 2 I have right now in crossover, they are now too old for the rapidly moving world over at Mint or Ubuntu, and they are the bottom of the list of cards the AMD drivers for windows can manage right now (Radeon HD 7870 and a 7850 in CrossFire). I need something like an rx 580 4gb minimum to NOT being forced to use win7, and I want it to work as it should.

SFC SCANNOW tells me everything is fine...

Code:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

C:\Windows\system32>SFC /SCANNOW

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Sorry for the triple post, I wanted to edit my second post but I broke the 15 minutes limit and now it looks like I can't edit the post anymore, first time I encounter such a rule, oh well, I've seen stranger.

If what's missing for getting some help is CBS.log, I can provide it, since I've done SFC /SCANNOW, no problem, but please tell me if that's what's needed now. System Readiness Tool might have been used too since the last reboot...if I can get some direction here, I read the rules but I wasn't sure if a CBS.log file would be of any use without doing SFC /SCANNOW, even though it shows up as nothing is wrong, which is of course not the case. Thanks...

Got it you're not gonna help, I'm gonna try a Repair Install, if I can manage it, and then give up and make a new install and re-install all my damn programs and updates, thankfully I got an iso that is slipstreamed to march 2019 so that buggy update won't be an issue.

Hello and welcome!

My apologies for the delay. We get very busy here, so sometimes threads fall through. Since you have more than 160.000 errors, I would wholeheartedly recommend a Repair Installation of Windows 7 or even better, an upgrade to Windows 10, as Windows 7 support ends soon.
