Hi there!

I noticed today that my free diskspace on my C drive was getting les and less.
After some examination, several CbsPersist files were eating up my disk space.
I found this forum in relation to this and I hope you can also help me fix this.

I ran your SFCFix.exe and this resulted in an issue being found.
I'll attach the SFCFix.txt to this thread.

If you need more info, please let me know.

TX!

What version of win 7 x64 are you running? If I have that file I'll attach it as a .zip and you can drag and drop it on SFCfix.exe and it will replace the file. CBSpersist files are created when cbs log reaches preset size. You can delete the CBS.persist.cab files. CBS.log is usually in use and can't be deleted.
corrupt file is chinesetraditional language pack, are you Chinese?

Little research. Language packs are for Ultimate and Enterprise win7. You can download and install this file from windows update. Can't drag and drop as I indicated above.
Microsoft page on it click here. Another direct download site click here. I downloaded the chinese-traditional KB from this site and scanned it with Avast, Malwarebytes, Emsisoft, & Superantispyware. No issues. Virus Total has a size limit which prevented me from scanning with it. If you use the direct download site, make sure you download the x64 chinese-traditional version. After download, click on it to install (stand alone installer). Hope this helps.

Thanks for your replies!
I'm not Chinese (Dutch) and I don't need and want a Chinese language pack. I have never (knowingly) installed such a language pack so instead of (re)installing one, I'll rather uninstall this one...
But given the corrupt nature of the installed one, maybe I would need to correct the situation first by (re)installing the language pack?

I'm running the W7 Ultimate version.

I've found something related in the CBS log, I'll attach that part.

Do you still advise me to reinstall the Chinese language pack?

Thanks!

Michel

You don't have to reinstall. If you don't need it, you can safely delete it. If you find that for some reason you need it, you can reinstall it from the 2nd link I provided above. Hope this resolves your issue!! :smile9: Happy Computing!!

Mic -

Please do not follow the advice from wben353 as it is incorrect. Wben353, I'll send you a PM. Please do the following to correct your issue.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - SFC Scan
  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Items for your next post
