So this hunt was prompted when attempting to launch a game from Ubisoft's Uplay client, or attempting to use the Adobe Flash auto-updater caused the following error;
Code:
The ordinal 788 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ieframe.dll

From there I found that trying to launch Internet Explorer would open an unresponsive window that would shortly close. I tried calling windows support about it, but they want me to pay $90 for them to remote into my computer to fix it.

Windows Defender and Malwarebytes both report 0 infected files on my computer.

Googling ieframe.dll errors led me to a windows help article about running sfc /scannow. Googling one of the file names listed as corrupted led me to a post on bleedingcomputer, and from there a script to fix it on thetechcookbook, but my file names didn't match so I didn't run that. A comment there brought me to this forum.

I ran SFCFix with my windows disk in the drive, the log follows;
Code:
SFCFix version 2.4.4.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2015-06-05 09:31:19.017
Microsoft Windows 8.1 Update 3 - amd64

Two things, I'm on windows 8, not 7, and shouldn't the file names match? The only time my corrupted file names show up is on the windows 8 version of that page, from a may 9 comment by Abdullah who has nearly the same error.

I'm not sure I understand.

In the comparison below, the files from your SFCFix are in black, the ones in the fix, red.

File names, as far as I know are utc.app.json and telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json

C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-u..ed-telemetry-client_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.17807_none_910ac2c6daa01c43\utc.app.json

\SystemRoot\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-u..ed-telemetry-client_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.17747_none_90df8130dac08ee0\utc.app.json

C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-u..ed-telemetry-client_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.17807_none_910ac2c6daa01c43\telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json

\SystemRoot\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-u..ed-telemetry-client_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.17747_none_90df8130dac08ee0\telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json

What are you saying doesn't match?

So all that stuff between 'C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-u..ed-telemetry-client_' and 'utc.app.json', the 31bf3856... is inconsequential? If that were the case how would abdullah have identical names?

I've never really dealt with system files before and am just being very cautious before I run anything.

Standby, it seems there have been new developments regarding this fix.

I'm only just reading about it now, so I'll let you know shortly.

This is from one of the resident Windows Update experts here, in a thread at TSF.

Two of the errors relate to KB3022345 - and there is no point in attempting to repair these errors, since they will re-appear if another diagnostic is run.
The update itself is of questionable value, and appears also to have its own problems :(
I would suggest uninstalling it, and then doing a Check for Updates, and hiding the update when it re-appears there.

His word is good enough for me. :smile9:

Well, I uninstalled the update and sfc returned with no errors, so thanks very much for your help with that. Unfortunately the ieframe issue that prompted this search wasn't resolved with that, so I'm off to try to hunt that down again.

I have to go out for an hour now but let us know what you find, if anything, and I'll have a look around when I get back.
